HI all,

As in my newbie post I've just start doing a small Ork army. I'm actually doing this as a Tale of Orks on another site, so thought I'd just log it here

So far I've done a Warboss - which I varnished last night, Meganob & Nob. I plan to get a Battleforce next week. Please bare with me as I'm not the best painter, but I do believe they're to TT standard. Also sorry about the crappy photos, my camera is mad with the flahs.

Is you going to put anything on the bases? It really helps the models look alot better.

THese aren't bad to start with. A little green ink wash on the sking and a brown ink wash on the leather parts would go a long way to imporving them.

Try getting turning the flash off and taking the pics with natural light, otherwise you can't show the detail properly. But the green looks very solid.

These are definitely tabletop standard. But a few thing would go a long way to improve them immensely.
Nobs and Warbosses tend to have darker skin(so a wash with an ink would help), also ork skin looks really good(imo) drybrushed. It helps bring out the muscles and make the orks looks bigger. And last the bases should have some sond and grass on them or something, it really ties an army together well.

Right big update time which I will do in small posts.

Here is the newly painted boss, I went into a GW shop and saw the dark colours they used and thought they look really smart and a lot better than the crazy bright green.

Purchased a ork battle force last month to complete the army to 1,500 points. I changed my list at the last moment so I ended up buying another two boxes of boyz to give me another 21 strong horde, and then another box so I can convert them into burnas for my 2,000 ork army.

A little bit of painting to be getting on with!:

I've recently being doing a lot of ork painting. I've also taken some tips and decided to wash them in devlan mud. It makes them a little darker, but more importantly shows details up.

I've fully painted a 21 strong boy mob and washed 10 lootas and a mek who will be my "big" mek.















I took the orks to my gaming club last night and they suffered the first defeat :( - was doing well at the start, but a I focused a lot of fire power on a wraithlord, should have left it really and also a small unit (not sure what) luckily managed to tie up my power klaw totting boss and 6 nobz inc painboy for several rounds. The boyz did well and asborbed a lot of fire power.

Any comments?

i think with your painting style they look better in the darker green. still you should wash them puppies or dry brush some highlights on them. it makes a WORLD of difference. i have to say they are looking good man. looks like youve got a really diverse horde going there.

Cheers fella. TBH I got the colour scheme from a local GW shop, they had them in the window. They told me the colours and I brought the paints and got cracking.

The latest pictures have all been washed, the devlan mud doesn't show brilliantly on the darker paints too much, but does give better detail and sharper contrast.

I managed to wash more models than I had hoped for the other night. I did the sternguard for the ultrmarines completing that army, so I carried on with the large unit of rokkit boys and finished them. So I quickly made a start on the warboss and nobz.

First of all, nice work on making the green so solid. Although I would first use some washes to create shading, and a heavier coat of wash to darken the skin also, and then drybrush it with a lighter shade of green.

i swear everytime i see the AOBR warboss i get a little smile. that is one bad ass ork mini. sometimes i just stare at mine and talk to it... like " your a lil killer arnt you? arnt you? you cute little machine of death and doom. adabooo! adaboo baba choooo!"

Kingcracker the AOBR boss does look cool, shame about lack of poses as standard.

Washed these the other night. Going to paint another nob which will be added for 2,000 games. Possibly will do another to fit in 1,500 games if i use my weirdboy instead of big mek with shokk attack gun.

I managed to wash my weirdboy over the weekend. NOw that this is done I can do the last mob of 21 boyz and have the army fully painted to 1,500 points

wow it might be the light but htats a really dark skinned wierd freakboy and i noticed theres a daemon prince and white necrons in the background white necrons....

It is really dark since been washed with brown wash.

Yes the daemon prince pictures are in my iron warriors project thread and the necrons are something i'm working on at the moment.

Well I've been on a ork painting marathon these last few days. I've finished the final lot fo 21 boyz taking the army complete to 1,500 points. Though with only 500 points left to complete the army I decided to solider on plus I didn't have a lot to do.

The unit of six meganobz are fully painted and washed. I didn't have much to do as I only needed to paint the two new ones I brought recently and also paint the trukk transport. All sorted now.

I now, well did have 12 orks left to paint to complete the army. 8 burnas, one mek and a few spare nobz. I've done 8 out of those 12 models and also ripped apart a razorback and made it orky. Just need to spray that.

Here's the start of the looted wagon. I was thinking of leaving the original paint colour and just painting the ork parts black with scratch detail. I was thinking of painting detail to make it look like the orks have welded the "improvements" on.

one thing that i think you should go to town on is that looted land raider.......just mess it up make it look like the orks took it and completely dismantled it then re assembled it again ( and being orks forgetting important pieces and adding in their own ).....but other than that great painting so far, the washes really helped and good luck on painting all those minis!

The land raider I guess could do with more orky parts, like the looted wagon.

The wash has done wonders. It has made the detail stand out more and darkened the skin. All the models are now painted as I finished the last four last night - missus is going to base them and army completeo!

Da Green Tide!

I actually prefer brighter schemes. But I guess you like the darker muddy approach. One thing I would do though, is dirty up your vehicles a bit. I really doubt Orks would polish the metal on their vehicles so it wouldn't be that bright.

The vehicles I haven't washed yet but that is a fair point as looks out of contrast with everything else.

I found that the bright green was unrealistic (not that a ork is space is! lol) and saw this colour scheme in a GW shop and thought it looked ace.

Great job sticking with it and getting the green tide painted. Thanks for posting all the pics. It looks like your painting improved as the log went on. Very cool army.
