This army list is almost done, and I wanted to know what you all thought of it. It has a very low troop count, which is normally very bad in an IG list, but I think the way I've designed it will allow me to ignore that problem. Without further adieu:

I'm still only at 2328 points, and am looking for a way to get the army to 2500. I'm planning on expanding this list to about 4000 for Apocalypse (cue 2 Baneblades), but I also want to be able to field a legal list at 2500 points.

A quick overview will tell you that the main force operates around 3 Russes, 2 Hellhounds, and 4 Line Infantry Squads, as well as 2 Autocannon Squads and Commissar Gaunt acting as an Ld10 bubble. The Storm Trooper Squads are not really there to kill a lot, but more to add a couple plasma shots, absorb charges (fearlessly so when joined by Gaunt) while my gunline redeploys, and to move about the edges of the battle unhindered. I figure my opponent will either ignore them because they pose no serious threat, or he'll divert firepower away from my softer, better units (Lascannon squads) to kill them instead. Either way, I know they're not economical, but I love the models and as my only fluffy concession, they stay.

I don't really want to have a gazillion ground troops, but seeing as how the only direction I can go in terms of list expansion is in the Troops section, I was thinking of perhaps fielding a pair of Armored Fist Squads. The addition of 2 Lascannons and 2 Light Tanks would be, IMO, quite worthwhile, especially since they are capable of running around and snagging objectives last-minute. Then again, I'm posting here to see what you all think.

C&C welcome. Thanks in advance.

Have you though about using Scout Salamanders in place of the AF squads. Though, this would only be a concern if you were worried about points. The AF squads would be better suited to hold objectives over the crse of the game, while the Sallies would be only really helpful to rush last min objectives in turn 5-6.

The only other comment I would make would be too drop a flamer out of each of the Special wpns squads in place of a Melta gun. Same for the Hardened vet Squads. This may provide you a bit better Anti-vehicle firepower when faced with high AV facings. I see your Coy and Plt HQ's are packing these, but it's handy to have the other key Drop squads with the same ability.

Stormtroopers, I like them. They will always be an annoyance in your enemies side .

I hate drops pods and drop troops, so in that respect, this list worries me. triple russes is bad and this is alot of models. It is not something I could fight without difficulty, but I do look forward to trying. I am glad to see you dont have 10 demo charges.

You could make the Sentinel Squad part of your Command Platoon, and bring some Rough Riders for counter-charge.

You could also give your Grenadiers a Chimera each. Lets them get a little mobility, gives you a bit more mid-level firepower, and lets you use the Stormtroopers' BS 4 when firing the Hull Lasguns.

Sigh. The vets are the counter-charge.

The sents aren't bad per se, but 3 hellhounds is needed at this points level.

Why have Gaunt and no conscripts to tarpit?

Stormtroops just give your opponent something worthwhile to assault and shoot with plasma guns. Don't bring 'em.

@HBMC
I think what extrenm(54) meant was that 3 Russes are bad to fight against. We email each other regularly, so I'm used to his mannerisms and style of writing.

@MinMax
I might end up taking a couple Chimeras for the Storm Troopers in order to capitalize on the opportunity to take additional vehicles. It will round out the list to a nice 2498 If I give both of them a Hull Heavy Bolter and a Turret-Mounted Multilaser. The improved mobility might also make the Storm Troopers useful for something other than acting as easy VPs for my opponent.

@Stelek
I was debating on either taking another 2-Sentinel Squad in the HQ slot, or on ditching the current one in favor of a third Hellhound. I don't think my ground forces are large enough to require a third one, tbh. Rather than make a solid decision, I'll have to play around with the current setup and see if I need the extra Inferno Cannon. I guess I'll see.

Gaunt is there because he uses the Leadership rule just like Officers in Command Squads. He's Ld10, so I'm getting the support of an HSO with attached Commissar for much less. He'll have to sit in the back and hide since he must move into assault if enemies are within 12" of him, but since all my CHQ and PHQ squads are deep striking, I see him as a nice Leadership-boosting alternative to making every squad have a Veteran Sergeant at Ld8.

If you face hordes, even getting one shot off with the inferno cannons will make the hellhounds a priority.

Smart players shoot them dead first anyway, but it's not easy to kill all 3 with 3 leman russes and a bunch of infantry lascannons/autocannons on the ground restricting what you can move.

Often as not, you need to expose something to destruction if you really want those hellhounds dead.

At any rate, hellhounds can crush an ork rush in trukks (pop the trukks with other weapons, then fry the orks when they get out) unlike anything else in the game.

Yeah, sorry, I meant that Triple russes are bad news, meaning a very good choice in an army. Good for you, bad for the other guy.
