OK, so after all the advice I have been given I have come up with my final army idea for my guard. I plan on building them up to 2500. For smaller games I can easily shrink the number of vets, cut the number of squads in a platoon, lose a unit of rough riders etc.

Thats 11 Lascannons, 5 Autocannons, 3 tanks, and a boat load of men. The commander will just stand around looking pretty. I made him HSO so I could give honorifica to one of my platoons JO's to extend the better LD bubble. The vets can be used to either infiltrate and move where needed to nuke MEQ's, or deepstrike and unload into what needs killing. They could also be used as counter charge, along with the Riders. I know most of you like giving Plasma guns to each squad, but I feel its bad mojo on guys with a 5+ save. I like the launchers because they can either hit an MEQ hard, or lay a few blast markers on GEQ's, which I do face 2 'Nid players. The PG's on the one vet squad I feel is ok cause they are meant to jump out and hit hard, possibly suicidally. Thanks in advance guys.

I'm mostly replying to this so that my 2500 IG list doesn't get unfair attention to your list's detriment (I just noticed yours after I posted mine). That being said:

Lots of Las and Auto Cannon. That's good.

With this many Las Cannon I'd give the Vets all-plasma since you don't need the anti-armor power but you could do for a little more volume of fire.

Barring that and the Grenade Launchers the list looks pretty good to me.

Grenade Launchers = Bad.

As long as this list has Grenade Launchers every where, it will always be inefficient and ineffective. There's no two ways about it. You can't hit Marines 'hard' with them, not when for 2 points more you get S7 AP2. Gets Hot! is meaningless in a Guard army. Your men are expendible. It's not like you've got 4 squads of Important Marines. You should have 100 expendable mooks.

Those H-Vets don't work as counter-assault, they're a waste of points. They drop, shoot, and then die. Nothing more.

You shouldn't have guns in Command Sections. They should be hiding. Officers don't belong in HTH. Save your points by not buying Power Weapons and Plasma Pistols.

Medics are junk.

You need 16 points to convert the GLs into Plasma Guns. Dropping the RR Vet Sergeants gives you that.

I can see 246 points spent on bloat so far (5 PP's, 5 PW's, 15 unecessary H-Vets, the AC and LC in the two PHQ's, the Medic). For 246 you can get:

* 25-man Platoon w/2 HB/Flamer Squads
* Plasma Guns on all your other line squads
* Some flamers in all PHQ's
* 2 Searchlights on your Russes.

You dont seem to have too many guys for 2500. For 2000 I run around 140 models or so. ALso, what exactly are you trying to do with your vets? What is thier job? Thier build is confusing.

This I believe is what you all feel is superb guard? Officers hide and bubble, Las Cans pop tanks, Auto Cans pound heavy infantry and light vehicles from afar. Vets drop in and fire 7 plasma shots and 2 lasgun shots at whatever needs really dead, rough riders tangle incoming assault and soften the blow. Tanks just blow crap up.

This list would be 7 las cannons, 7 autocannons, 17 PG's, 134 men, 3 tanks. As long as being up for over 24 hours hasnt ruined my ability to count guns.

Now that I look a little close I think you may do well. Like I said I disagree with the 6RR deal, however I can see thats what you are going with.

I think the plasma with LC is good. However, i think you might have been ok with the GL/AC mix. GL does the job the squad is designed to do. HOwever, for 2 more points PG can be nice except when you overheat.
