Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I saw this today at Salute, and am very impressed.

No its not a rip of a Defiler kit, though it looks close enough to one. The model can be contructed in many different variations, many of the features are intended to be removable or replacable. For example if you leave to the top hatch/turret ring open you see clockwork gubbins beneath. The turret has a removable frontplate with a stubbier barrel beneatrh, and beneath that is a lift up gunners frontplate with a steampunk gunner behind (modelled on the steeplejack Fred Dibnah).

If you ask the company will putty over the gunner and/or driver before molding you your tank, so you have the vacant space to put in an ork, Praetorian, CSM or whatever you want commanding the vehicle. He even said he will cast that part extra, so you have a choice of orginal driver, or your own. Nice service from the caster/ company owner.

The casting quality is very good, strsaks ahead of the rest of the companies earlier stock.

I wont go into the many many uses for this model, only to say that you could make a Brass Scorpion out of one real easy, its a tad unter a foot accross built up, and makes its closest comparison, GW's Defiler, look wimpy.

I saw this at Triples (Sheffield UK) last month, The Ramshackle dude had lots of nice stuff, including modular vehicle kits and Isambard "Kickass" Brunell who's sat on my desk at the moment.

I got to talk to the Ramshackle guy on the tram on the way home, nice guy.

Wild Wild West...

Sorry... that's all I can think of whenever I see that OR the Defiler. Is that Kenneth Branagh in the cockpit? With no pants?!

It is a nice model though, and well put together.

Its from a 'micro-company' of one guy and his mates helping out every now and then, I dont know him, we just met at Salute. The company has no commercial presence, but have thought to include dollar and euro pricing for their new boxsets. You will need to mail order if you want the tank. I wanted to encourage the guy, he didnt even have a proper stall, just a table. So I said I would mention the models on Dakka as I dont think many of us would get the chance to see these models, and I think they will go down well here, the spider tank and the vehicle gubbins especially.

It's a beautiful model, and a very ambitious one. The price is unbeatable, and it's only the fact that I can't get a PayPal account that's stopping me from making a purchase.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I know these guys from Golden Throne, and I'll heartily endorse them. The spider tank thing is wicked and cheap at the proce. Their triddlin (sp?) bits work well for orky stuff too.

If you can't get/use paypal email them or contact them and I'm sure they'll sort you out if they can.

If you cannot get Paypal because you have no credit card there is a way around. I dont want a credit card, my Paypal account is linked to my bank account instead. I put money into my Paypal account for instant transactions, or allow the money to be withdrawn from the bank account with an e-cheque delay of about 10 days.

e-cheques work fine (speaking as a sender and receiver) allowing for the delay mentioned by Orlanth.

You can also pre-load your PayPal account with cash from your bank account, however this means leaving a balance on deposit with PayPal who not only pay no interest but also charge you for withdrawing less than £50. Pre-loadinh PayPal takes about a week so it's not a lot quicker than e-cheques.

I really like this model line, unfortunately it (apparently) is all resin (and some metal?) - if it was plastic I'd buy it all in a flash

Man, the whole line is indeed great. The scale seems to vary a lot, but once you've established how one of the figs matches up to GW, you could probably figure out any other given piece.

The vehicles are way cheaper than orky GW equivalents, even with the crappy conversion rate for us yanks. The bitz for vehicles are indeed great. And the figs are fully plausible for Inquisitorial henchmen.

It's good to see someone making a go at doing figs well without gouging. Great work, Ramshackle!

EDIt: missed the bikes first time 'round. If these are in scale, they would be awesome rough rider bikes without ridiculous mounts of time and money to make GW equivalents.

Having ordered one, I thought I'd put in some thoughts.

Pros:
The price – dirt cheap and very cool.
The sculpting – an excellent, versatile kit that looks awesome and suitably steampunk.
Versatility – numerous optional extras and poses.
Company – Ramshackle turns orders around quickly and packs them well. The chap is also very helpful and friendly.

Cons:
The material – it's a 'gritty' resin that even as an experienced modeller is very, very hard to work with, as it's extremely brittle and fairly hard. If you're unlucky enough to get mouldlines or miscasts, they're difficult to deal with properly. I would happily have spent an extra tenner or so to get a better quality material to work with.
The smell! – Now, I'm lucky enough (well, sort of) to have no sense of smell; but my gaming group noticed that there's a really rank smell coming off the resin. Being a little paranoid about things smelling (can't check stuff myself, so I keep everything nice and clean!), I rinsed and scrubbed away at it, and it disappeared. However, it seems to have returned.

I'd be happy to recommend it, but I would recommend it much more strongly if it were made of better quality materials.

Hi everyone, thanks for the positive comments. They really help out.

Nice to meet Orlanth at Salute. It was a good day! Orlanth wanted to be able to mount other figures in the head and turret, so I said I could cast versions without the driver. Its a bit of a hassle, but in the end all the models are hand cast when the orders come in. Therefore if you have any requests or questions feel free to email me through the site!

As for using payment for the models, you dont HAVE to do it electronically. Good old fashioned cheques or postal orders(money orders?) work just as well, if a little slower! I mean, the US and Brittish postal services are pretty quick.

As for the future, Im working on bikes at the moment and some more VSF characters. At least one of the bikes in production looks pretty orc ready!

Nice model. Would make a good Blood Pact stalk-tank (Gaunts Ghost, Dan Abnett)

One thing I noticed, is that the female pilot has a bulge between her legs...

Hey.
It's nice to see you joined in the thread.

Any chance you could comment on the post about the quality & odor of the resin?
Any plans to remedy that?

Ladies do have a bulge between their legs! haha!

Anyway, as for the resin:

I use polyester resin, which is very easy to cast and doesn't damage the moulds much. This brings down my overheads, which I aim to pass onto customers. That is how I can do the Huntsman for £20. Unfortunately, it is a little brittle. However, I based up the model from the publicity photos and have been taking it to conventions and letting people pick it up. Its even been through bagage handling at an airport. No breakages so far! So I think its pretty much Ok for gaming with, as long as you don't try to play cricket with it! Haha.

As for the smell, its harmless hydrocarbons, and not a hazard to breath. I am so used to the smell now that it smells really sweet to me! Sorry if its causing problems! I suspect a good coating of quality varnish will reduce odour for gaming.

I will be using polyester resin for the forseeable future. Ramshackle Games is a micro business, and to start using better resin we would need further investment. At the moment we are focusing on the low price market. Our vehicle models are designed to be robust enough for gaming, detailed and kind to the pocket. There are some disadvantages to the resin as Ive said, but I think all our models are excellent value for the cost.

So if you want a big army of mad ramshackle wagons then getting them from us won't cost too much. We offer loads of extra bits and pieces so making unique vehicles is really easy and fun. Oh yes and cheap.

Incidentally, I get loads of castings of the legs that dont come out well enough to send out to customers. They are excellent for conversions and scenery making. If anybody wants a few, PM me. I can send some out for only postage costs!

I would like to emphasise that the reason I don't like the resin is because it's very hard to work with for conversions (the legs of mine are going into a reaver titan, for example) rather than because they're 'bad'.

The resin is sturdy and hard-wearing, and if you're a fairly experienced modeller, it'll be fine – it's just not ideal for extensive conversion.

Malf: I split the cost with a buddy of mine who took most of the insides for a battlewagon conversion, so I've just got the legs and various hatches and bits. It is a really cool-lookin' kit.
