Hello everyone,
I went to an auction a my local Games Workshop today and they had a lot of great deals so I bid on a few items. Everything began at the price of $1 CA so I managed to pick up 20 beast of chaos bestigors and Gorthor the beastlord in chariot for only $21. I couldn't believe how much of a steal this was and even items like an eldar megaforce went for $70 CA. They had about 200 items to sell off and it lasted for 4 hours.

Now that I am home, I am looking at my bestigors and realise that I don't want to start a BOC army. I just love the models. However, I would still like to be able to use them in an army so now I am debating where I should use them. I want to put them in a 40k army because I like the rules much better so I was thinking of using them in either a CSM army or a daemons army. Both have new books and I've always wanted a chaos army so now I just have to decide which army to use them in.

My idea for CSM was to create a BOC themed marine army so I'd be using the bestigors as probably khorne berserkers, but I'm not sure if people would have a problem with that or how I would theme the rest of the army. Gorthor would probably just be placed on a normal base and used as a sorceror or lord while his chariot could be used as something else. Another option would be to use them as lesser daemons and just make a normal chaos army, but I feel that would just waste the models for such a weak unit. As for a daemon army they would probably be bloodletters, but I don't think 20 would be enough for the whole army.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions for how I could use these great miniatures in an army that is more to my taste than BOC. I'm espescially lost on what to use the chariot as, other than a daemons herald chariot.

Thanks

It might be an idea to use them as Lesser Daemons in a Daemon-themed Chaos Marine army.

you could use the beastigors as daemons for the new daemon codex, but anythoing else wouldn't make any sense at all and you would have to keep on reminding your opponent what each unit represented (bog the gameplay down a ton) so try the daemons but nothing above that

Yeah, either as Lesser Daemons with Codex: Chaos Space Marines, or Bloodletters with Codex: Daemons.

Hmmmm...
Looking over the CSM codex I noticed that lesser daemons aren't actually that bad especially with their invulenerable saves. That will probably be my choice in the end and I'll just make a normal CSM army with them in it. I would still really like to use the chariot though so any suggestions for that would be very appreciated.

Greater Daemon or Chaos Spawn are what springs to mind.

I'll probably just use it as a mount for my sorceror, such as a disc of tzeentch if I go with CSM. If I choose daemons, I believe that heralds can ride chariots. Does anybody know if daemons can be taken of different gods or if they have to be all khorne or slaanesh. I may just do daemons if they can be of different marks in one army because I won't be buying anymore bestigors as they are quite expensive. So hopefully 20 bloodletters is alright for a daemons army.

You could buy a box or 2 of 'zerkers and mix and match them to make some beastial units.

What? Daemons would suck if you had to play all one God. No, you can mix and match freely. Have some Tzeentch Flamers support your Bloodletters, as the Nurgle Daemon Prince smashes the tank.

Well, a lot is going to depend on your gaming group. The first rule of modeling is WYSIWYG, meaning that every model should have every piece of kit that they are armed with. WYSIWYG has gotten less strict in 40k, as very few units contain mixes of wargear, but as a general rule anything unusual (powerfists, special and heavy weapons) should be represented.

Counts as it using models and an army list to represent something that is not currently fully represented in the range.

If you were to say, throw 10 Bestigors on the table with your CSM army, square bases and all, and call them Berzerkers, you might get some looks.

On the other hand, you covernt all your basic CSMs out of plastic gors, and add a few bolt pistols and a power fist to your bestigors, you're representing a Chaos Mutant army, which is a cool idea and won't be problem at all.

It's all about context and conversion. The more of both you have, the less weird any particular model choice seems.

Thanks for all the great suggestions and ideas that were posted here. I never even thought of kroot mercs.

However, I have decided to just go ahead and make a normal beasts of chaos army. It's about time that my friends and I got into fantasy so we're all going to start an army. I saw the special character morghur the master of skulls so I will be creating an army based around him. I'll have alot of sacrificial warhound units to turn into spawn and throw the bestigors with some characters.

Thanks everyone
