Some piccies of a group of Iron Hands space marines that I'm working on. There's a completed one at the back on the right:
Arm detail: This marine is an Aspirant Techmarine, so bears the Adeptus Mechanicus symbol on his pauldron and has repainted his right arm in red to honour the Machine God.
Scale pic of the marines with a Praetorian TENDer.

I think they look really good. Are they the conversions from Terminator bodies? I'd love to have the patience to sit and do that.
Only thing I could suggest is maybe a few more bionic parts, esp with them being Iron Hands. And maybe a slightly more pronounced highlight of the black to show off the work you've put in more.

Thanks – here's a piccy with some better lighting. This shows off the highlighting etc. a little better.

Yeah, that looks alot better. Can I ask how you made these guys? Esp the torso sections. I would love to make one myself sometime just for something to look cool.

One way to really distinguish them as iron hands is to paint their gauntlets boltgun or a similar metal. Like the crimson fists, they take their name quite literally.

Heh, that Heavy Bolter that one has looks like cute toy in his hands. Still awesome though. Oh, and I second iron (colored) hands of some sort.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. These guys will indeed get silver right hands, like this completed one:

First off, credit for the method has to go to synapse on Warseer (and to Elusive71 who came up with the idea of converting proper-sized marines!). I use a simplified version of synapse's method, which results in scale sizes of approximately seven-and-a-half foot tall marines. I think this is about right, and leads to the following size:
Basically, mount a regular marine torso on terminator legs, then add small plasticard spacers (0.25 – 0.5mm) to the shoulders before adding the arms (again, from terminators.
Attach thin strips of 0.25mm plasticard around the waist and on the (terminator) shoulder pads.
Greenstuff a torso (this is surprisingly simply – it's just a vaguely triangular sheet of greenstuff trimmed to size once applied to the torso)
Detail to your delight!
Here are some pics that should help:

Freehand – just a case of drawing a neat circle then adding crenellations around it for the cog. The skull's a bit harder, but still just drawing a circle, and then a pointy box beneath it. Dot in the eyes and nose, and you're gold. I've bisected the skulls here in black, but you don't need to do that.
Anyway, I've totally updated them, so on with the show:
One of them has been repainted as an Iron Soul (the orangey one)
Few more details to do (weapon markings on the shoulder pads of the Iron Hands), but nearly there.

sice you are creating your own shoulderpads, and doing so much for the conversion works, I would suggest you take a few minutes to smooth out the joins from your adds to the shoulderpads.
It's not a big deal, but when compared with all the work you are doing, you are leaving a huge "look at me" on the shoulderpads which could be removed rather quickly if you take a few minutes.
very nice work though, very nice.

i think you have a very good set of models going on and your modeeling is awesome, the only criticsm i will have is that maybe not enough bionics going on

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |
