hey dakka people...

i got my paint-stained hands on a couple copies of the harry the hammer mini yesterday...i was really lookin' forward to this mini, as he is standin' on such a cool base...
when i opened him up,, i was completely disappointed to find that it is a horrible lookin' sculpt...not what i would expect of a 25th anniversary mini...

the base is cast in 4 parts, and looks to be a complete nightmare to assemble...there will be a lot of green stuff, and carvin', work tryin' to make things line up...
the base is loaded with cool details, but it will not be posible to paint 'em as seperate pieces, so some of the detail will be tough to reach...

harry himself is 6 pieces...in the dry run, he went together well...the shield doesn't line up so well with the arm, but a little work should sort that out quickly...
it will definitely be necessary to paint the shield as a seperate part, as it will cover too much detail on his side...
the pose is cool, but the hammer is the best part of the mini...very detailed little bit...

harry looks like he will be fun to paint, but i'm not lookin' forward to the base at all...

cheers

I just ordered mine this morning. I've had a soft spot for old Harry ever since I first saw a picture of the old 1st edition boxed set. How would you compare him to, say, Crom the Conqueror? Do you think that it would be feasible to mount him on a regular 25mm base and set up the scenic base to accept the 25mm base, or am I dreaming?

You are dreaming if you hoped that. The model has more metal in his base than on his person/weapons.
He comes with a special base (2 cavalry bases together or skarsnik's base if you know it) and he sticks over that by a good 1/2 an inch.
My FLGS recieved 12 today and they had 4 left at the close of business, 2 of which were previously reserved.

as foda said, there is a couple harry's worth of metal in the base, and not much of a space in the middle for a slotta base...
it's gonna be a choice between paintin' him without the base, as the 'eavy metal team did for the in-house comp., or slavin' away for hours to prep his display base...
i'm not sure which choice i'll go with...

Well, mine is going on a 25mm so he can easily roll with a big unbreakable warrior block, if and when I get around to making that chaos horde :S

Yeah, I guess I'm a gamer at heart, too. I'll probably just turn the scenic base into terrain or something.

Yeah, it's a bit pricey. I just couldn't let Harry slip by me, though. My Chaos Warriors need reinforcements if they're going to lose their daemons!

i got my 2 for $20 each, which made it a little better...
one is just to keep in my box full of limited edition minis,
the other will be painted for sale...
even at a discount i was a bit bummed out by the quality of the sculpt and cast...the 'eavy metal guys really did a great job of bringin' him to life...
the base is just a nightmare...if it wasn't for the fact that i'll be sellin' him as a display mini, i would just put the base in a box, and never look at it again...

cheers

Mine just arrived today. Fancy box! I haven't had a chance to do more than glance at the parts though. Looks like he's a big 'un!
