Can someone please help me beat the Imperial Guard as the "Sisters of Battle" in the Guard's home sector of Dussala Precinct on Kaurava I? This is the campaign game...
That sector seems overly stacked against any attacker, especially the poor Sisters who even with a forward base of a Convent, Pristine Sanctuary, and extra power stations need to capture a lot of objectives (And there are few within initial reach) to upgrade the Chapel and start vehicle production. By the time I get my vehicles online the Guard have spotters calling down huge artillary templates on my forward troops.
I think I get the bit about stopping the rhinos (Baneblade convoys) as soon as they are dispatched (The first time I played the scenario they brought Baneblade production online and that was insane. In the Emperor's name, all I have by then are little Exorcists and Immolators!), but there has to be some other trick to this thing. The guard has troops and reserves to burn in this scenario.
I can take the East and South production bases alright (On the map edge guarded by Chimera (East) and Walkers (South), but I don't know how to stop the Guard from getting those huge artillary templates and fighters... or do I just take it in the shorts for a while and hope the Guard runs out of shells? I have noticed that once I take out a production base the Guard leave that sector alone for a while.....should I be pressing faster into the middle? If I do that then those silly production bases upgrade the Guard's forces too quickly. I've played it about 3 times and had to bail each time when it was obvious I was beaten.
It's a great game, but serriously....HELP!

Basically build 2-3 squads of sisters, lots of turrets then aircraft ASAP to take out convoys and the big gun

It figures that Mafred sucks at this scenario too.
Where is the big gun? Is it in the middle of the map? I've only seen the template and the carnage it causes after it fires.
Getting fighters (with a convent and pristine sanctuary advance base) means upgrading the chapel, Building the Multaturum (Vehicle thing). and then upgrading that a few times. Is there a faster way to get to fighters? I haven't tried a turtle strategy yet.

Turtling is perhaps the only way to win. The gun is moreorless in the middle (slightly lower than middle). As you move out of your base, you will trigger new events and make the level harder, so if you just turtle from the start, and take out the convoys as they go past your base, you can get a lot built up before it gets too tough.

Actually, preventing them from making a Baneblade is pretty easy. When you attack that first mini-base (which I do fairly early) where the convoys are coming out of, destroy everything EXCEPT for that building where the convoys come out of. Pull your troops out and the only thing you want there are a couple of anti-vehicle units, whether they be Immolators or Celestians (I prefer leaving Immolators as I used Celestians in my main attack force). Place them near the entrance where the convoy comes out but not close enough to destroy the building. The convoys will pop out every now and then but they'll get destroyed quickly. You may find that a couple of convoys may get by but I've always managed to destroy their main base or Mars factory way before they get enough convoys to produce even one Baneblade.
It might be easier to contain them in the second mini-base as sometimes a basilisk may snipe your troops standing around the first base.
After that, build up your troops and move on up to the cannon. I found that what worked for me was to build as many Repentia as possible, backed up with a couple squads of Battle Sisters and with 2 or 3 squads of Celestians. When you assualt a base, send the Repentia in first to tie up everything and the Battle Sisters firing from safety. The Celestians should focus on turrets and any vehicles, especially Leman Russes. With a bunch of Celestians, you'll tear through vehicles and buildings fast. And the Guard have tons of vehicles for you to blow up so make sure you bring tons of Celestians.
If you find yourself up against anything tough, use that faith-based ability on your Battle Sisters that makes your shots do insane damage. It's the one that basically lights up your targets in a golden light when they are hit. That ability causes you to do TONS of damage and you'll just rip right through things quickly with it. Build up Penitant Engines as well as they are fast and can do tons of damage.
Don't bother with Seraphim. I find that they are way too weak and die off quickly.
Exorcists are fairly inaccurate and don't do enough damage. I find that I can destroy everything with my infantry before the exorcist can fire off a couple of shots.
Immolators are nice but I find that my infantry just fill up the screen so they end up doing nothing. You're better off building fighters as they can fly over your troops.
Your base will be attacked every now and then so what I suggest is you use up all of your turrets defending it and leave all of your honour squads there. They should be enough to take out the majority of the attackers. Your main problem is if they send a basilisk and/or a leman russ at you. Then you'll actually have to send out your troops there to take it out, which is annoying. What I do too is have my Living Saint defend my base too. The reason why I do that is then my base is almost guaranteed to be safe and my main attack force is so large, they are able to take down everything they come across.
Overall, I think you have to move fairly quick. If you take too long building up everything, they start coming at you with more and more stuff. Really, all you need at first are some Battle Sister squads to take on the infantry and a bunch of Celestian Squads to take on the vehicles and turrets. Also bring your buffed up Canoness. I send her straight into squads of infantry to tie them up while everyone else just blast the infantry or anything else of priority. Hope this helps!

Turtling helped, but I'm not a very good RTSer so
I gave up in disgust. I DID manage to take out the cannon
with krak grenades and bombers, but trying to assault
everything while my base is being attacked.
I think REdeemer's hints will help a lot.

Redeemer has it.
Go after the bomber production as fast as possible. Next set up to stop the rhino carrier (not the whole building) while you go after the big bassie cannon.
Spam penitant engines as fast as possible. They wreck stuff while your SoB squads and Immolators draw most of the IG troop fire.
It's always good to go after the IG last (take all the other factions first) as your Cannoness will be equipped to wreck havoc...

Get about three Celestian squads with maxed meltaguns/multi-meltas to take out those pesky convoys and tanks, and put them in a Rhino for rapid redeployment.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Thanks for all the help. This is actually a great RTS scenario. It has changing conditions that escalate if you do not handle them to ultimate defeat.
Building fighters to take out the cannon is genius. I turtled my base with lasers and mines, built up all my capacities, taking out the cannon first (with fighters), and building a healthy reserve to defeat the increasing counterattacks on my base. I then built an attack force centered around penitant engines, Celestian squads, a strong HtH squad (Forget what they're called, but they have the chainswords), and my Cannoness. I moved these diagonally into the center of the map and camped the stategic spot there which took care of the rhino convoys. I then struck the key point objectives rebuilding the attack force as needed. My reserves around my home base had plenty to keep them busy, but as you gain more objective the counterattacks die down and you can move more and more of this force from guard/hold base to reinforce stategic spots your attack force takes out.
One thing I can add to the great tips in this thread is to leave an Exorcist back at your base for a while. Put it on hold and it helps break up infiltrators and counterattacks. You need some anti-armor at home to take down the walkers and Ogryns that also show up (Ogryns are nas-tee). Anti air is a great help too.
Fun stuff. Malfred, you need to give it a try again soon. It takes a few tries (especially if it's not set to easy), but it's well worth it. Even if you get beat down, securing your base lets you build up. If you lose units from your attack force, reiforce from the base reserve and replace the reserve with the same or stronger unit.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I usually build all 4 HQ before doing anything, meanwhile I get 1 squad and upgrade Heavy Bolters taking out the big Basselisk.
You can sneak up from east and just shoot it from there, no need to do a suicide run up the west ramp.
Do airfactory, then run west and take out BaneBlade convoys.
Then take out middle, north, then north west, eventually the relic point, then do the big fortifyed sector at north.
----------
I find IG and Tau sickly OP for campaign, then Chaos, just take the gloves first as they shoot warp flames, make your chaos lord do ranged damage never melee. I don't even convert him to a prince when I have the option, the warp flames are too OP.
