I thought a cool themed army would be an army from a cut-off imperial world that is still in the high age of technology.
The army consists of

Heroic senior officer
power wepon
carapace
iron discipline
master vox
medic
2 plas

JO
power wepon
carapace
iron discipline
medic
3 plas

JO
power wepon
carapace
iron discipline
medic
3 plas

Jo
power wepon
carapace
Iron Discipline
medic
3 plas

6 special wepon squads
3 plas per + chamelion

10 infantry squads
vox
plas
heavey bolter
chamelion

tell me what you think, The doctorines would be Iron disipline, cod, drop troops, chamelion, and spec wepon squads. IT comes out just under two thousand.
the tactic would be to keep the infantry platoons in front and drop the spec wepons and HQ.
39 plas
10 heavey bolters
156 men

Wit, large guns, and a ten-thousand man boarding party is the easiest way to convince anyone your not cheating at cards

first of all this is llegal. you have special weapon squads with plasma, which they cannot get, then you have more than two units of them. you can only have 2 special weapon squads per HQ choice and then you can only have one of those.

secondly i see nothing that can even scratch AV 14, meaning your buggered then. finally you shouldn't have that many points put into command squads and should go for more infantry units instead.

lots of changes to be made here

As I recall, the Special Equipment doctrines (like Cameleoline) require all eligible squads to purchase them-so the JO's need to pick them up as well.

Assuming that you are using drop troops on the Junior Officers, the medics are probably wasted-that squad will die to return fire/assault, so whether or not they live is a bit irrelevant.

With all of that AP2 shooting, Carapace and Power Weapons on the officers is not a terribly good expenditure of points-that is 40 points that could be spent well elsewhere. I would recommend using the points to upgrade some of the extra SW squads to hardened veterans or buying a Commissar (if you are paying all of those points for the Heroic Senior Officer and Vox Network, you might as well buy the 40 pt. Commissar.)* Personally, I would drop either COD or Cameleoline to buy Hardened Veterans, but that is your call. Or you could put the points back into the command squads to have 4 specials each.

Regarding your HQ Officer-you are going to want to be hiding him most of the time. If he dies, you will take a huge hit on your Leadership. I would look at getting a company standard to help his morale function, and trading out the plasma if you need the points to buy it in a unit that will get to use it.

I would second the need for some additions that can hurt AV14.

*Unless they are a restricted unit choice for Doctrine purposes, it having been so long since I used one that memory is not serving me well.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

This list makes the bethroned Emperor cry. So much bloat. So much waste.

Heroic senior officer
power wepon
carapace
iron discipline
master vox
medic
2 plas

HSO = Waste of 5 points. JO w/Honorifica better.
Power Weapon = Waste of 5 points. This models should never be in HTH.
Carapace = Waste of 5 points. 4+ or 5+ - neither will save him.
Master Vox = Waste of 25 points. You have a free Leadership bubble at Ld9. Use your free Leadership bubble.
Medic = The Medic will not save this squad. Take a standard instead.
2 Plasmas = 20 points wasted. Not only is this squad small and fragile, but you've gone and given them 2 Plasma Guns to extra killing-my-own-men-in-a-vital-squad-ness.

And you have to buy them Cameleoline.

Now, stick with the Doctrine choice and ditching all the crap, this squad saves 60 points. Sixty. That's a whole extra squad you can buy for that amount.

JO
power wepon
carapace
iron discipline
medic
3 plas

X3

Power Weapon, Carapace and Medic are all wastes. Take a 4th Plasma instead. You save 11 points per squad, so now we're at 93 points saved.

6 special wepon squads
3 plas per + chamelion

I'm not even sure what this means. You can't bring six Special Weapon squads in an army. You can bring 2, total, and they can't even have Plasma Guns in the first place.

10 infantry squads
vox
plas
heavey bolter
chamelion

You've got 4 Command Sections in this army. What in the Emperor's Most Holy Name do you need Voxes for? That's 50 points wasted on Voxes. We're at 143 points saved.

This list, I'm sorry to say, is utterly hopeless. Aside from the bloat and the fact that it's illegal, it simply doesn't work. How does it deal with vehicles? How does it deal with anything over AV12?

I'm not going to rework this one as I usually would, because I'm not sure my point would get across. I'd love to know, first, what you were thinking?

On the plasma/heavy bolter squads:

The general wisdom in line squads is to take a plasma gun to compliment either a lascannon (both weapons are AP2) or an autocannon (both weapons are S7 & also can get more than one shot if the enemy's close). HBs are usually paired with flamers as they're both cheap and used for anti-infantry purposes. These HB/flamer squads are usually deployed forward and used as a sacrificial lamb for enemy close combat specialists. They get charged, they die or flee that turn, the enemy's sitting out in the open and you pump all the fire you can into them during your next turn.

Instead of special weapons squads, you can take three plasma guns in veteran squads. A lot of people use 5 man drop troops suicide squads to rep this. You could even model them as disposable cyborg servitors since this planet has a high level of technology ("Who cares if the cyborg slaves get fried, it's easy to make more!").

what's wrong with giving HB squads plasma? since wehn does Ap2 S7 not fit anywhere? that's like saying you should buy HB's for squads because the lasguns are only Ap - and S3. Plasma fits anywhere, so it's fine in HB squads. anyway against hoards enemy infantry shouldn't really ever be reaching opponents lines in enough numbers where a flamer is needed. also most often the opponent won't end his movement close to you HB/flamer units that it'll be effective without them having to move. Plasma will work fine

Nothing, it's just that for throwaway squads, the 76 point HB/Flamer combo is a better one, saving you points for Plasma Guns in squads where they fit (Autocannons) and almost fit (Lascannons).

ok that makes sense if your hurting for points. but with all the points this guy'll save from dropping the illegal things, and unneeded crap he will definitely have enough points left over to buy lascannons and such. i still pay the 4 pts extra to get the plasma to for my throw away units. i even have 50pts left over going to waste which ended up as more plasma troops in HQ squads. i'm going to post my problem...

If you end up with 50 points spare you try to find another 5 and get some RR's.

I played against an all plasma last chancers army once and it was quite interesting, though not very efficient. What was interesting about this army was that the guy gave everyone a master crafted plasma gun. This meant he could re-roll his failed rolls to hit, including ones that should have resulted in gets hot. The biggest problem with this list was I think each model cost near 40 points, which for a toughness 3, 4+ or 5 + i can't remember, just doesn't work.
