This is an army that I have come up with over time. So far it has done wonders for me against Ogres, Wood Elves and Beastmen and it works about 50/50 when I fight Orcs. I is curious to see if anyone thinks that it need some tweeking before I go up against anything else, esp. those scary new Daemons!

Well the OldBlood has six attacks with the maiming shield, all poisoned. the scimitar is 50 pts and i want/have other magic items.

the cold one riders are just too expesive for a 2000 pt army (in my opinion) i use them in the 2500 pt tho. they've proven to hit very very hard, i have wrecked a unit of eight Ogre Iron Guts in the first round of combat a few times.

Looks like you have no magic defence. You're also very slow, with only skinks, steg, and krox moving faster than 4".

First list I see with both the scar vet and the old blood on a cold one. There is a reason at least one of these has charm ot jaguar and a great weapon. If you like an oldblood to go very attacky, go scimitar, maiming shield and carni.
You are also very saurus heavy, eventhough they are quite strong, they only have WS 3, and against elite infantry, they won't get the upperhand when going for cheer numbers and outfighting them. Consider skinks: cannon fodder from time to time, could lead important offensive units of the board and can shoot a heck of a lot, with poison.
Adding a few terradons could be helpful to pick out possible machines/mages.
Salamanders are great at pure damage from afar too.

I think lizardmen is about outmanoeuvring and having a unit for almost every possible tactic in the game, but this list gives me the feeling to just go head on collision with the opponent. I'm just suggesting you could look into the more subtle posibilities.

More temple guard and a 2nd gen. Slann. You have the option of the most powerful, non-special character, caster in the game and at 3000 points you should take it. I'd just drop the blessed Saurus altogether in order to make room for the above. Also, the champs are pretty much a waste in every unit except the one with the MP.

Also, your Slann will probably die quick to enemy fire without the 2+ save vs. ranged attacks

for the first list your BSB is armed illegally. he cannot have anything other than magic weapons and armor, or a magic standard.

also at 2000pts you should always have at least 4 units of skinks, without that you'll have huge problems throughout the entire game. and no spears on saurus

the BSB in the 2000 pts doesn't have magic items or a magic standard.

but you gave him a shield and spear. and as i said already the BSB cannot take any items that are NOT magic armor or weapons. it says under the BSB option for the scar vet exactly what he can be armed with...looks like you didn't read that

also i just noticed that at 2000pts you have almost no magic, which is not a good idea. without a good magic phase you'll get crushed all the time. you need at least 2 skink priests at 2000pts. also skinks without a single unit of scouting ones is a bad idea, that is an amazing ability for them to have and indispensable for your list since you only have 3 units of them

anything else? i am worried about the 3000 pts army. only three Kroxigors in the units. i could drop it down to one unit of four and add in two more units of Skinks, but that doesnt seem like such a good idea.

i'd drop one of the saurus blocks for more skinks and an extra kroxigor per unit. that would make plenty of shooting and blocks to deal with all enemy units they could throw at you

but will the just two Saurus blocks and the Temple Gaurd be enough? it seems like that's pretty low. six units of Skinks, two more Kroxigor and another dispel scroll looks pretty good though. it brings my army closer together but that makes my overall front smaller...

in my 2250 list i use only two block of saurus, and for 3000 i only have one more saurus block added. you really don't need large numbers of saurus, plus you'll have two big units of kroxigors to boot making your list have plenty of damage dispersal at your finger tips

dropping one from my 3000 would put me down at two, the Temple Guard are stuck with the Slann which sort of limits where the unit can go. the more Kroxigor would make up for that i suppose.

here is another pivotal question tho. with the 2000 pts i had to drop the Stegadon, i loves that guy and he has done me quite a bit of good more than once, id like to add him back in at 2500 (or 2250 with fifteen points of something) with four more Kroxigor and another level for the one Skink Priest (makes 2501 pts). the alternative is twelve Saurus Cavalry with a musician, standard and the Jaguar Standard with another Dispel Scroll (makes 2499 pts). Saurus Cavalry have also done me some good and i'd really like to make them a fat hammer to the army. i am torn between the Stegadon (and other stuff) and the Saurus Cavalry... although the Stegadon does come back in my 3000 pts.

the temple guard are not limited by the slaan at all, if anything they should try and get into combat so that the slaan cannot be shot but can shoot at others. also three blocks of decent size (4 ranks of 6) should do great. which brings me to another point, have your temple guard be in a unit of 20 and bump the saurus up to 24 models each, that way they are in 4 ranks of 6. generally you want to have ranks one size larger than the minimum size to get ranks, so since that's 5 now, use ranks of 6.

as got the steggy question, i'd say go for him instead of the cav. the saurus cav aren't good enough to do the stegadons job. they cost too much, and don't have a big enough armor save to be true heavy cav. they are chaos knights with less armor, less WS, less I, and S5 only on the charge for 2 more pts. I ay take the steggy

so i should have the three units of Saurus (24 each) and the Temple Gaurd and drop point where needed to do this?

i was saying you should take 2 units of 24 saurus, and then 20 temple guard, that way everything you have is in units of 6x4. with units that size you have the frontage to be able to break most any opposing block on the charge and take most charges without much thought. with hand weapon shield and maybe spawning of sotek your regular saurus blocks can deal with just about anything. also as long as your slaan is a BSB then the temple guard should always be a-ok. stubborn, re-rollable, Ld8 on 3D6...can i get a hells yea?

with the points you saved on extra temple guard, and the saurus block you should be able to upgrade one of those skink priests to a scar vet and buy 2 extra kroxigors

would it be more better to add a ScarVet, or switch out a Skink Priest? they open up where the Slann can shoot and also generate more dice for the fatty.

also, are jungle swarms any good? ive NEVER seen them used and the same one box of them has been at the GW here since i picked up my first Saurus box. they are expensive but couldnt they be a good flank gaurd?

also played around with the 2000/2500 pts army a bit. i think it's a nice compromise.

Nonono...nononononono.
I just mean...nononono. Never ever Jungleswarms.

But seriously. Since 7th, swarms suck. Sure...unbreakable, but if they lose the combat res (and they will), they will take wounds equal to the difference of the combat res. They will just cost you a special slot and too much points, plus give your enemy an extra overrun. So actually you would be even better off with paying for them and NOT fielding them.
I think that, letting them guard your flank, they would not only give your opponent a free overrun in your flank, but also a false sense of security. You want a flank guard? More skinks is the answer!

gotcha gotcha. i was just curious. esp because of that one unmoved Jungle Swarm box at the GW near my house. that box scares me...

as it should scare you, it has been the doom of many good gamers.

to answer your first question i think you should try and get two scar vets. yes the skink opens up LOS, but you shouldn't have all that much trouble with LOS anyway and you have to be able to see the skink priest to use that ability for the slaan meaning you rarely if ever need that ability. anyway the scar vet will undoubtedly make your army much more able to survive and deal out damage in CC

CURSE YOU JUNGLE SWARMS... CURSE YOU...

but if the Slann is in CC he wont be able to shoot in his flank, right? but if there is a Skink Priest behind him or just to one side he would be able to. plus the Skink is carrying stuff that i wouldnt be able to give to the ScarVet because he's more points.

this is what i come up with tho:
more Bane Head to ScarVet (a) and replace Venom of the Firefly Frog.
and this to replace the Skink Priest...
ScarVet - 116 pts
- Shield +2pts
- Great Weapon +4 pts
- Burning Blade of Chotec +25 pts

which makes the total now an even 3000 pts

also. it would never seem like a good idea to put a Skink in the Stegagon Howdah, why do they make that an option?

ilikepie

Made in us
Rampaging Chaos Russ Driver

Madison Wisconsin

why would you give him the burning blade of chotec? he has a great weapon already so doesn't really need it. also i'd drop the blade of chotec for spawning of sotek, so he has that extra attack on the charge.

oh and the slaan can always shoot out of combat or the unit as though he were a lone character meaning he can see in any direction, so he can shoot to the flanks so you really don't need the skink priests since for the slaan to LOS on them then he can also see anywhere they are, meaning flanks and front.
