EDIT: This is not a poem, it is a filk song. The original, 'Jessie' by Joshua Kadison, can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU6jOiNM_fg&feature=related

EDIT2: The version on youtube is very slightly different to the original I based this on. I have amended it appropriately.

We know him for Blood Bowl and for third ed Talisman
The epic and the oddball - Jervis is the man
He said "People say this photo doesn't look a bit like me"
Your dodecahedrons were brave in ASC
We loved the Battle for Armageddon, and Horus Heresy
(Though Jervis mate the latter seemed a little more broken to me)

Jervis in the 90s yours were the games to see
Back then you loved wargaming and you believed in CRTs
You brought so much in to my world when I was just fifteen
Jervis you can always make anything for me
Oh Jervis you can always make anything for me

Warmaster (the first one, not the one with little men)
Occupied our lunchtimes, well, most of them
We loved it when the battle barge hit the atmosphere
Jervis, we did take a month off to make time for Dungeoneer
You said "It's all about the playing, just remember that's the thing"
And we listened to you pleading "Play for fun now, don't just play to win"

Jervis tell your story, about how it's gonna be
We know you want to fix them, the lists that are OP
So tell us all about your balanced vision for 5E
Jervis, the schedule we'll blame on the company

So bring on all the changes, and bring it on with the new Iron Hands
And who knows, maybe this time, things'll turn out just the way you planned

Jervis you are not a fan of competivity
Gaming is for basements, not powergamed GTs
You believe in lightweight rules both elegant and clean
Jervis, please just make sure you fix all the codices
Oh Jervis, don't forget the old broken codices

(apologies to Joshua Kadison)

I've never known people as dogmatic as those who maintain that all opinion is equally subjective.

In the last stanza, "competitivity" is a train wreck of a word, and should be replaced with "the compeitive".

You know, right before you burn whatever machine you used to write this

I have to admit to being terribly amused by the idea, if not the final product though.

That's a shame, that's my favourite line. 'the competitive' wouldn't fit into the rhyming scheme.

I take your use of the word 'stanza' to indicate that you are reading this as a poem. It's actually a filk. I have updated the original post to be clearer.

Falling Down on New Jersey

Lyrics Copyright ©1990 Mitchell Burnside Clapp - All Rights Reserved
Music: "Rolling Down on Old Maui" (Traditional)
Used by permission

It's a damn tough life far from home and wife
that we astronauts undergo
And we don't much care when the mission's done
how far the ship did go
But you'll be sad to learn our deorbit burn
won't be made for our tanks are empty
And the fuel line's torn so you'd better warn
all the folks in New Jersey

Chorus:
Falling down on New Jersey, me boys
Falling down on New Jersey
We thought it wise we apologize
to the folks in New Jersey

Well it's widely known that a ship alone
would be burned up and destroyed
But the ship and crew brought with us too
an eleven mile asteroid
So when you've awoken all the folks in Hoboken
and the profs at Princeton too
We'll divulge the fact that the rock's impact
will be at seven thirty two

Chorus

Well now why the shock? Hell it's just a rock
Are we just alarmist fools?
But it has you see potential energy
of roughly ten to the nineteenth joules
With the rock's advance there is Buckley's chance
that the Garden State'll be spared
And soon we'll show if you didn't know
that E is mc squared

Chorus

We will strike a spark that'll toast Newark
and will flatten Perth Amboy
It won't be pretty in Atlantic City
You should shade your eyes in Troy
Even so and yet we have one regret
that we haven't the delta V
To push it forth just a few miles north
to land smack on N Y C

Chorus
Falling down on New Jersey me boys
falling down on New Jersey
We apologize- gee we're sorry guys!
What a drag for New Jersey

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
