I I'm looking for some advices about starting an Imperial Guard army. This would be my 2nd 40K army (I also have three Fantasy armies - if this matters for you).

My main concern about IG is that the list is really outdated by now (it was released at the end of 3rd ed) and I believe it is really hard to make a competitive and fun to play list. Nowadays I see few IG generals on forums and most of them are new, rather then old time veterans. So this, somehow confirms my believes..

Or I I'm wrong and the Imperial banner still stand against the enemies of the Imperium?

Tell me ONE reason why I should start playing IG army or if I should wait until the new Codex will be released ?

Codex ain't for a while. I expect DE and Necrons first, and I expect Marines, Wolves and Planet Strike before that.

So go for it! Start a Guard army. Get while the going's good. You can always simulate the upcoming Guard Codex by using the original 3rd Ed Codex.
