Okay, I'm taking the plunge and going Necron. My first purchases are going to be the codex, the battleforce and a Lord, but what then? I'm used to playing SM and CSM, so I know very little about the Necron, so any advice would be appreciated. A friend and I plan on playing some 750 and 1000 pt games to learn the new rules come July and he plays IG, so I would really be interested in hearing what the Necron have to counter the Guard's tanks.

i play at 1500 points, and i started with a battleforce in January. I have added:

1 destroyer
1 lord
1 destroyer lord
1 monolith
6 immortals

i mainly play against marines, but have killed land raiders and vindicators just with gauss weapons and d-field scarabs

Seriously. There's a lot of good stuff in them.

Then, and this is the unfortunate part, you will have to bite the bullet and buy atleast 8 Immortals. Sure they're one to a blister and very expensive, but you need them.
