If I was a chic, I'd wear 30% less clothes. I don't know how everyone would like that though.

You have noticed that this trend is not without real world parallel, right?

But why is she 12? Looks too anime. I like the Red Sonja style big boobed chicks in chain mail myself.

Which part - that partial plate protection isn't needed in the abdomen and thighs or that female soldiers wear two-pieces and miniskirts?

C'mon, everyone knows that females think the most important parts of the body is the shoulders and feet, that's where they stack their full plate armor. Breats and crotch can do with bikini protection.

In all seriousness, I was coming to this thread thinking of some transvestite comedy relief, "harry the girl" sounds scary enough.

Oh, another goofy question, what was the name of that comic featured in the back of the Dragon mags? the really old ones.

The part where fantasy armor is usually a styization of current trends of dress; in which men where more clothing than women.

I doubt anyones serious, it's just the overabundance of women almost wearing nothing in Fantasy settings, that it's just a common thing to joke about the "armor" and whatnot. I think your sketch is very nice, and the model will prolly look cool too, if you can get her anywhere close to your sketch. There's nothing wrong with the fantasy at all, I guess the world is waiting for some brave soul to make a female fighter that looks like there's some fight in her. One guy made a really cool "manga" version of Shadowsun(tau) in skimpy clothing and so on, following all the rules of leaving bikinis to cover up the strategic male lust areas, and armoring up the rest. What's more hot that an armored form which only accessible soft parts are tits, ass and crotch? Guess it's more of the subdued male trying to break out of his will to dominate the poor woman with all manner of fetishes.

But seriously, I look forward to seeing what you make of this stuff, Harrietta the Hammer will be sweet if you can pull off the conversion. Best luck with the GS and, lets see what you create.

Cheers

dogma, care to tell me what current trend of dress male Chaos armour is derived from?

Well, I have to admit I am serious. Why should a more or less fully armoured warrior of darkness decide to bare her midriff and cleavage simply because she is female? Can you actually imagine a real person, even in a fantasy setting, wearing that armour? Did Joan of Arc go to war in a chainmail bikini? It all shows an inability to conceive of the feminine without sexualising it.

Male chaos armor seems to be a mix of "football player" and the punk and goth scenes. Spikes, skulls, chains and big friggen shoulder armor. Honestly, the male armor makes about as much sense as the female armor styles. The former is ridiculously bulky and impossible, the latter makes you wonder "why bother?"

Most real armor covers up gender quite effectively. That is not, however, particularly appealing to the human eye, which tends to appreciate "ideal" gender norms, what ever those might be in a given culture. So women usually are drawn looking very feminine, and men very masculine, regardless of setting or functionality.

Just like females on the internet must proudly announce HEY GUYZ I'M A GIRL, I'm guessing fantasy females are the same way. Must be because both don't exist.

They exist. I feel safe to assume that people who play
games together and say they're husband and wife irl are
doing so because it's something they enjoy together , and
not some twisted game among male gamers who somehow
derive fun out of pretending to be a couple.

You've never heard of the fantasty female inverse armour protection system? The less they wear, the better protected they are.

Just look at the front cover art to any fantasy MMORPG. Duh!

The comics I remember are Nodwick, Order of the Stick, and of course, Dork Tower. But these are fairly recent compared to Dragon Magazine, so you could be wanting something else.

Chaos Warrior/Female Armor philosphizing aside.. I think its a cool pic.

I used to read 'Savage Sword of Conan' as a kid, and it had Red Sonja stories. She walked around in a chain mail bikini, but killed any man who hit on her. Probably why I was scared of girls in junior high.

Skaven: are you thinking of "What's New?" by Phil Foglio from back in the 80's?
You can see them archived from his site "Studio Foglio" if so.

less armour does = more protection on a girl.

I saw this and thoguht (in a fantasy way...) mmmm shes fit, would do her...and then a slight reality bump... oh bugger, we're in the bedroom, and only now I'm naked do i notice the big hammer and remember the chaos bit......oh darn, she also locked the door while I was stripping all that big bulky armour off.......b@ll~~ks

Nice picture anyway.

Also, I'd like to make the point that while armour is less/more bulky in real life (or was) it did follow fashion trends... Romans had leather tunics and 6 packs, crusaders wore whatever was 'trendy' for their sect etc.

Actually, skimpy clothing is a defense all it's own; While your opponent is distracted while checking out cleavage, you get a +5 to your bluff check for sneak attack damage!( DnD reference).
