Only thing I see is that for the same points you fielded that second brood of gaunts, you could field two more of the spinefist variety. That's a big difference in numbers.

You're making a good point.
At first, I thought Gaunts /w Devourer have a superior firepower, but actually they are pretty close to Spinegaunts (from a damage point of view).
14 Gaunts w/ Devourer +1 str VS 28 Gaunts /w Spinefits it is:
28x 18" range BS3, Str 3, Living Ammo
28x 12" range BS3, Str 3, Twin-linked
So basically it comes to +6" range vs 14 more living bodies. Looking at the role I take gaunts and my play style (alway prefer more units / models), I guess I will go with Spinegaunts instead of Gaunts /w Devourer.

I would put the 2x TL Devourers on the winged tyrant and give the walking one 1x TL Dev and a venom cannon and see if you can give him a guard or two for more wounds.

This looks good. However, you need to drop the gaunts entirely and make the CC tyrant winged and give the dakka tyrant 3 tyrant guard. Make sure the winged one also has warp field. Everything else is perfect, I use a list like this to great success...until my opponent fails only 3 armor saves the whole game....but that's a story I'd like to forget.

Hello,
PistolWraithCaine wrote:This looks good. However, you need to drop the gaunts entirely and make the CC tyrant winged and give the dakka tyrant 3 tyrant guard.
Why should I spend 135 points for 3 Tyrants Guards (which basically add 6 wounds to my dakka tyrant, but 0 increased in range damage), when I can spend 113 points on a Dakka Flex which add 4 wounds (compared to 6 from Guards) but also add 2x Twin-linked Devourer ? Not to mention, the tactical advantage of having more units on the tactical map.
Also, if I would add 3 guards to the dakka Tyrant my opponent will ignore it and shoot at the other Tyrant/Dakkaflex. And again the point invested in guard it is somehow wasted.
Indeed 1 guard sounds as an interesting choice, because it doesn't greatly increase the cost of Tyrant.

Second aspect, is about adding two Warp Fields to Tyrants (for a total 70 pts). All you get, is an increase from 3+ save to 2+. My problem is that there are few weapons with AP3 and in most of the time you will keep your tyrants in cover (for those AP2/3 weapons, if they are around).
Thanks for help,
T.

Yes, one Guard is a great investment. Two is okay. Three is overkill.

To the OP:
Melee tyrant needs I6, Implant Attack and Flesh Hooks. Too much can give you a beatdown otherwise. Marine heroes are I5, Terminators in cover are bad news, and no Implant Attack means Avatar is a coin-flip. If you don't have I6 at least have Catalyst.
I personally would play either a) 8 TMC or b) 7 TMC and Zoanthropes (depending on what the local armies are like), however, that's 4th Edition. You really don't need many stealers/gaunts. I have 2x8 Gants and 1x6 Stealers for a total of 22.

I thought you didn't like cc Tyrants in shooty nids? ... Or was that a different guy with an Ackbar avatar? I'm bad with names. Not trying to start something, just wondering why you like melee Tyrant in this list and not in 7-8 TMC nids. Or is it just not wanting to change the OP's army too much?

I like the new list. There's a lot of helmet fire going on. That basically means that your opponent doesn't know what to shoot because there are so many important targets. Your flyrant'll be priority, but I assume you'll know how to use him. So along with the helmet fire comes mistakes, which is what a Tyranid list is made for.
As for the list itself, I'd think you should slide in the other heavy 'fex somehow. They're scary and they add even more to the helmet fire effect. And this goes along with your more guns the merrier concept. Cut down on the spinegaunts maybe, because you know a smart opponent will just ingore them anyways. And maybe cut back the tyrant guard? I think you'd rather have them shooting your dakka tyrant then your flyrant anyways.
That's my two cents atleast.

warp feild is nearly a must for a winged tyrant.. he gains an inv save (albeit 6+) and 2+ armor save. he'll die alot faster to small arms fire with a 3+ save than with a 2+ save.
something else ill use alot with my nids is Shadow in the Warp. while its nothing like eldar psychic defense, it still makes it harder for those 2x Lash chaos armies to be as effective.. and gives the eldar a little taste of their own medicine.
one more thing, as i dont have my codex with me i could be wrong, but do nid wings still say the model cant move (or assault) into/through cover? if so then the flesh hooks on your flyrant are wasted.

No, they got rid of the old wings + cover = death rule. They just count as jump infantry and have to roll a difficult terrain test when they land
