Hey there. I started Trolls in Hordes and my flatmate started Legion. Through raw enthusiasm, we've hooked another couple of friends into playing.
We're both having great fun with this game.
One thing that has struck me is that Trolls are all about taking the initial charge, then buffing up and pounding down on the enemy.
This sort of strategy has worked well for me Vs. Circle, Cygnar and Pirates so far. I play beast heavy with Doomshaper. I tend to turtle near defensible terrain, let them close on me and hit my Dire Trolls. Then I pop my feat and counter attack, locking them down and beating the tar out of them.
This tactic doesn't seem to work at all versus Legion though. Legion seem to me to be all about swooping in, ignoring your defenses and killing you in one go. My heavies just can't stand up to the dreaded sheparded frenzying carnivean, or the Angelus backed up by Seraphs. Terrain is more of a hinderance than a help with stuff slipstreaming through solid obstacles and ignoring everything else.
I'm sure I can figure out how to get around this stuff, but I was wondering if any of the rest of you had found the Legion particularly tough to beat with Trolls? I'd like to figure it out playing beast heavy with Doomshaper first. After that I'm thinking about branching out into Grim Angus for some shooty lock down fun, and Kegslayer with some Champions for the infantry melee horde of doom.

I have to say, Hordes is a great game with a fantastic learning curve. Maybe it's because I've been locked into GW games for so long but I find the fresh approach challenging and really interesting. Also, the models mostly rock.

pcerretti and I are in the same boat--I have trolls and he has legion. I find them REALLY hard to deal with. While I can usually do some serious damage one-on-one (I've had an axer take out a carnivian), they are just very good at protecting their weak spots (i.e. the warlock).

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil
