Big boxes comin' your way!

Hope they release these to other retailers.

[EDIT]: It also appears that Oz is getting the silly marker light thing. I guess they got it past our new knee-jerk laws.

Aren't they rather expensive deals? The eldar one seems more than the sum of it's parts, price-wise.

Even converted Australian prices equate to 220 euro for the Eldar set. With each Falcon and Wave Serpent at 30 euro, and the Dire Avengers at 20, the box is well over it's value.

Well let's run the numbers hey?

I'll stick to the (crazy) Oz prices for the time being.

Autach (25) + 20 Dire Avengers (2X50) + 2 Wave Serpents (2X65) + 3 Falcons (3X65) = AUD$450.

Falcon Host Set Thing = $360. 20% off.

Now, for the real test:

Ok, AUD$311 if I order it from Maelstrom Games UK, and shipping is free from them.

Yup, still cheaper to buy from the UK than it is for me to drive 5 mins to my local GW. *shakes head in disbelief*

Amazing.

At least I hope they keep the equation like that when they bring it over to Europe.

And I know that they were a deal in aussie dollars. I was talking about the european prices just to make you feel bad.

In fact, things aren't very nice price-wise for either you or the canadians. The Dire Avengers cost 50% more. Ouch.

Man, that Falcon chassis must be one hell of a moneymaker. GW has to have sold silly numbers of it over the years, and all from a set that's barely changed (other than the Wave Serpent sprue).

Looks like a good deal except for the silly Autarch no one ever uses. The other deals look decent too once you remember the ridiculous Oz prices.

does it seem odd that for the more expensive SM box, you pay double the price for an extra 5 termies and some bikes?

These seem more like weak Armageddon box sets then army box sets.

Not all that exciting, especially since I thought this was going to be official confirmation on what would be in the 5th Edition version of BfM.

Heh. Somewhere off the coast of England is a sunken cargo vessel with the original shipments of Falcon kits from the UK to the US. If they're still shrink-wrapped, you could probably make a mint off of them.

Actually, I think some of these are pretty sweet army deals, in line with what many hardcore players take today.

Necrons: Lord, buncha Warriors, 6 Destroyers, Scarabs, and a 'Lith. Add a few more Destroyers, and I'd be happy.

Eldar: Under the current rules, pretty much what you would expect to see in a Mech Eldar army. Some might sub out the Waveserpents and DA for Jetbikes, others want to shoot 30 Catapults. Throw in some Clowns or Fire Dragons in the Falcons, and off you go.

Nids: 3 Carnifexes, Gaunts, and Stealers. I personnaly wouldn't use the Warriors (though they do get better in 5th) but if you add a Flyrant I think you've got a solid starting force.

Tau: Aside from all those Stealth Suits, you've got a pretty solid Mech Tau army. I would prefer Crisis Suits, but I know some players who swear by the Stealth Teams.

The only ones I'm not really sold on are the Marine and Chaos one. Transports get better in 5th (as do Blast weapons,) so I don't think they're horrible value.

When I say weak, I don't mean that there isn't good stuff in the boxes, just that it's nothing a Warhound isn't going to smear off the board with a template or two. They are somewhere between a regular box army and an Apoc box set.

If I really really really loved Stealth Suits I would consider the Tau set as a starter for an army.

To be fair, none of the actual GW websites are advertising these as Apocalypse army deals, just Army Deals to celebrate the launch of 5th. I think the Apocalypse reference was thrown in by HBMC by accident.

The UK Chaos one is pretty good; thou Im wondering why they would put two landraiders in a army box; but I thought I might get two and split them up for ebay; I mean I think it was 239 pounds worth of value for only 150 - Pretty good for GW I would think!

Darn. I was hoping the Grav Tank host would be all Serpents.

I'd imagine most Eldar players already have 3, even if they aren't cheesy enough to use them outside of Gladiator-style tourneys.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

It could just be me, but these do look like a fairly good deal.

In particular the Necron box looks like a good price, and seems like a reasonable army right out of the box.

It is definitely tempting.

I just added the chaos set up on the uk site, and it came up to £239 pounds. an 89 pound saving is nothing to be sniffed at.

Interestingly, the UK chaos deal has 2 land raiders, while the OZ on only has one. I'm guessing that OZ is the correct deal, but they have to honour the deal as advertised. If you're interested I'd order now, before they correct their mistake
