I've always loved Warhammer Daemons so I jumped all over the chance to play them in 40k.
Purists will notice that my Tzeentch daemons are not painted according to GW fluff. This is because I've drawn my inspiration from John Carpenter's "The Thing." Rather then the standard candy colors I've decided to pursue a more realistic look of twisting, morphing flesh and bone. It's hard to tell from the pictures but there's liberal usage of gloss coat throughout. The models are still pretty bright and not as dark as they should be, but my experience has shown me that brighter models tend to look better on the tabletop.

These do look very good. Especially the horors are very cool looking. The flamers miss the flames, because the flame colours look so much like the skin colours. That could have some more contrast imho. Not that I could do it this good ATM...
I must say however, the first pic is a lot more unsettling as the others are in terms of gore...
Ravurion, I agree about the flames. I don't paint flames very often so they're certainly not my best.
You're right about the plaguebearer weapons Stelek. I think I'll try out the new GW washes and dirty these swords up with rust and blood. I've been considering a second squad of plaguebearers which I'll arm with weapons from the WFB zombie sprue. I think the scythes, picks and such would look more appropriate.
Boss, you're correct in your guess. My avatar is a creature from Silent Hill crawling out of a hole in the wall turning a gear.

I'm not seeing it in the pictures so either it's not there or it's not enough...GLOSS, lots more gloss. If you're a Thing fan, then you know about the barrels and barrels of KY Jelly they used during the making of that film. Don't gloss the whole model, but anything with red should be glossed. A model with Matte and Gloss effects always make lively pieces.
I come from a time when basecoats were white, miniatures were metal, and my ork's gun glowed red; I am a McVey disciple.
So the Bloodletters ended up a little darker then I had originally intended. However, I'm happy with the result. Yeah, it's a standard GW color scheme, but I like it.
Some more flamers.
Some mischievous nurglings to tag along.

I watched the first 4 parts in a row last October, surprised by how much was recapped at the start of the each sequel
Good to see more from you Virulent, great work again. Blue flame on the flamers is a nice change, and the Masque is quite nice. The bloodletters I think let you down though, just no pop really. Or to paraphrase Metalocalypse, they need some ZAZZ
And of course, old school nurglings are the best

Those look really nice man. I like the Masque in particular since that is almost exactly the scheme I am doing for some Khornate Daemonettes for my buddy's army.
The Soulgrinder is also looking awesome. Not many peope remember to do the tendons attached to the muscles in a different color! Med student are we? ;-)
Your Soulgrinder, Masque, and Bloodletters are all a really solid color scheme together. That's always been something that's kept me away from doing demons of different gods - how to make them look like a cohesive army, but still from their own separate gods. While the colors of the Horrors and Nurglings don't necessarily fit right in, the shades you've chosen are very complementary to the other demons. Great job!
Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack
He's been done for about a week now but I just got around to taking some pics. here's the complete Soulgrinder;
He fits in with my darker more realistic paint scheme. There are rust and oil effects on the steel along with tons of gloss coat on the exposed muscle.

I love the soulgrinder. I do however have to agree with the 2 above, the legs need something. Maybe a bunch more rust, some dirt and maybe a little battle damage or wear and tear. Other than that, it all looks spectacular.
Oh and you captured that mutated wolfs head from The Thing perfectly.

Hmm. I'll admit, towards the end of the project I was getting a little tired of working on the Soulgrinder. The torso was a pleasure to paint, but the mechanics bored me to death. I'm working on some Bloodcrushers now, but I'll have to go back and give the Soulgrinder the attention it's due.

I vastly enjoy how the soul grinder looks like glistening muscle tissue (at least to me anyway). I also like the direction with your flamers, I never really was into the warping smurf look GW does on their sample paint schemes.
Regarding the Soulgrinder, I'm thinking I may go back and add some detail to the flat panels on the legs. Maybe some free hand musculature or runes.
In the meantime I've progressed on the Bloodcrushers.
I swear the silver highlights aren't that bright in normal light. The Bloodletters will be painted same as above, but with a few subtle changes to make them "pop," as suggested earlier.
