If I'm running a game for three players, would it be feasible to give them
a bonus feat from the multi-class list as a way to mitigate some of the missing
combat roles? The new Multiclassing seems right, and just giving the initial
feat doesn't seem too overpowering. They'd still have to use up a character
upgrade at levels 4 and beyond to gain the additional feats for their multi-class.
For example:
A party with:
Ranger
Wizard
Warlord
might multiclass with:
Ranger => Thief
Wizard => Cleric
Warlord => Paladin
It would lead to some interesting character development at the beginning as
characters found themselves obliged to maintain friendly relations with the
organizations that provided their multi-class feat, and give me more avenues
for story threads.
What do you think?

Have only 2 encounters with the new system under my belt, but that looks like a pretty good idea to me. Also think about cajoling someone into being a half-elf for the cross class synergy action.

It's your campaign, and I think somewhere in the DMG they encourage using house rules. But since you're actually just giving them the 4th level feat early, it evens out. I think you'll be able to throw more at the party at 1st level and keep the campaign exciting. Now the fun will begin when Living Realms kicks off next year.

I think you should start at level 30 and go storm Mount Olympus or something.

You could have them roll up 1st level characters like you're starting out fresh. Then have the players make a 30 level character and do the Mount Olympus thing, have them conqueor and become the gods of the world! Then totally pull a Dallas and have it all be the dreams of their 1st level characters. Total mind *****, but would give them a taste of things to come if they reach that level.

What do you think?
The new multiclassing rules are less cheesy than their ancenstors, and may not give you what you are looking for.
As is, your only running a little light on Thievery. Your Ranger and Wizard dish out good damage and the Warlord leadership will boost them and allow them to use healing surges.
Yeah, my goal is to keep things from becoming too weenie.
"Oooh, instead of two minions, this time you face THREE!"
4 Minions = 1 Regular so your party of 3 is ready to face off against 12 minions !!
The new D&D rules scale very well, but if you want more out of your party you might consider letting them run 2 charecters apiece.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current group has 5 players, and outside of the 1st day, no more than 3 have gathered at a time to play. I let everyone roll up a second charecter and when there are only 3 players we still have 6 charecters to field.
Since there are soo many new things to explore in 4E everyone jumped on the chance to try a second Class out.
