If your army is led by Creed, are you not able to take Doctrines? Army Builder is giving me a validation error for it.

Sure. Cadian doctrines. Creed can only lead a Cadian Army. Your army builder should have an option for famous guard regiments. Select Cadians.

Some are glass as glass half-full type of person.

Some are a glass half-empty.

I'm a glass half broken and shoved into someones face kinda guy...

Do they not have any special Doctrines then? Just a standard Codex list? Otherwise it lists any of the options as illegal.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Cadians have their own doctrines, like the other famous regiments. I think they get ... Sanctioned Psykers, Heavy Weapons, Conscripts, uh ... ID probably. I think they get 7 altogether.

And they like grenade launchers. At least someone does.

The guard codex has doctrines listed for each of the famous regiments as mentioned by the others in this thread.

The codex also says you can always choose to use the standard list (w/o doctrines) to represent a particular part of a famous regiment that doesn't follow all the normal patterns the regiment is famous for.

As such, I believe the codex supports taking creed for an army that uses the cadian doctrines and one that uses no doctrines at all.

Hmmmm, Darn. I want to do a Grenadiers and Carapaced army (love the kasrakin figs) and also thought Creed seemed like a pretty cool guy to lead it. More interested in the appearance than the general though.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

They get Storm Troopers (no 0-1?) and Grenadiers but they do not get Carapace for their regular guardsmen. So you can take 0-3 non-infiltrating, non-deepstriking Storm Troopers squads as Troops with I believe no Infantry Platoons necessary.

Doesn't the IG codex have the lists of Regiments with trademark Doctrines? I think there is. So use them.

Yeah... I left my books at the store when I left there last night so I didn't have em on me and was relying on Army Builder at that moment. I've got em back now so I'm going to look over it some more. It's surprising how quickly Guard moves from a fair distant third in my rankings of interest in starting a new army clear to first when someone gives you a box of several dozen guardsman and a Leman Russ.

Let us not forget in 1 month creed's special rule won't work, due to it being made into a combined roll.

Creed's rule will always work, I'm not using 5th ed rules anyway. Our club decided that some of the 5th Ed rules Suck. (Rending, pistols, morale and ramming we'll take) So we are going to mix and match the rules and make a rule book of our own.

People have been saying it sucks for months now. That's how internet forums work you know. Reguardless if what is done, someone will find a reason to complain about it. If GW said they were going to give out gold bars for free in the starter set, Someone would complain that they were too heavy.

I've played 5th ed... its not drastically different. But i do know its a better core rule set. The real test will be the codei. (codexs?)

If I remember correctly the docrtrines that are there under cadians are labeled as the Cadian 8th. Yes those are cadians but not the only cadians. You could create your own regiment ie: Cadian 12th or somthing and they are still cadians. Also if you use cadian models I would say they are still cadians. You could not however use and play him with a vestroyan, or DKOK list.

No. First of all the Cadian doctrines are listed as "Cadian" doctrines and not "Cadian 8th" doctrines. Secondly, read the second paragraph on page 55 of the codex. It makes it clear that by the rules a "Cadian" army is one that either uses the listed doctrines or none at all.

Didn't they rule that Creed could be used in any Guard army, not just an army using the Cadian-specific Doctrines?

Actually now that I read it, it is NOT listed as just "Cadian" it is listed as "Cadian SHOCK TROOPS" So alternatively you can have "Cadian DROP TROOPS" or "Cadian Jungle Fighters" or "Cadian Chem-Dogs" Whatever. Its just fluff. The bottom line is they are still cadians. Secondly the second paragraph says nothing about you must use those listed or none at all to be cadians. It says they represent everything from Cadian Shock troops (One form of cadian) to Jungle fighters to blah blah...

No. "Cadian Shock Troops" is the proper name for the entire army, just like "Valhallan Ice Warriors" or "Armageddon Steel Legions". Stop trying to make a loophole. Creed can legally only be taken in a Cadian list and that does not include any set of doctrines that you decide to slap the name "Cadian" on.
