Well, my first thought was '4 Lascannons just ain't gonna cut it at this points leve-' then I realised it was a 1000 point list, not an 1850 point list. Then I realised you had 80 men at 1000 points.

Well done.

Personally I think the 3 Heavy Bolter Fire Support unit isn't helping you at all. It's better dropped in favour of adding extra weapons to your other squads, such as Flamers to the Heavy Bolter squads and Plasma Guns to the Lascannon Squads.

4 Flamers & 4 Plasma Guns would leave you 16 points. That's enough to buy a Standard Bearer (11 points). Leaves you 5 points, which you can use to take Rough Terrain Mods on your Russ.

orchewer wrote:I know the Fire Support Squad points can be better put into a min/maxed Veteran-plasma-death squad, but I just don't want to have to fiddle around with converting/buying plasma weapons.

Veteran unit isn't necessary at this points level. Plasma Guns, however, are. I'm sorry to say it, but you need Plasma Weapons. If your army is made up of plastic Cadians or Catachans, converting is really simple thanks to the numerous bitz sites out there selling plastic plasma guns. Otherwise you can buy the metal ones.

If you're using older Guard metals, the Tallarn, old Cadian, old Catachan and Steel Legion lines all have Plasma Guns. It's only hard to get them if you're playing Valhallans or Mordians/Praetorians.

You need Plasmas. Get plasmas.

If your officer takes Carapace, your whole army needs Carapace, thought I would point it out before an opponent does.

Carapace Armour is in the Armoury. Any character can take it by themselves without it being a Doctrine.

Thanks for clearing that up!

I can definitely see where the need for S7 is in my army. Could this just be compensated by switching my HB's to Autocannons like my original idea?

Yeah its not bad at all for 1000 points. 101 models is pretty good. You seem to have covered all you bases as well.

Re-edited

- Changed the Heavy Bolters to Autocannons
- Made both platoon HQ's counter-assault units...think I went a bit overboard, but I'm okay with that
- Okay maybe a lot overboard. But still, 4 flamers, a bolt pistol, and a swinging S3 power weapon..not the worst counter-assault unit in the 40k universe.

Ditch the power weapon and the bolt pistol. They'll never swing/it won't help you.

And at this points level... Autocannons and Lascannons aren't necessary. You need one or the other, but not both. You do need anti-infantry power, and the HBs give you that.
