So I am playing my friend what I thought was a friendly game with the new 5th ed confirmed rules. My pathfinders paint his devastator squad hiding behind a tactical squad so I can take away their cover saves. 3 hit and he says thats fine...just let me roll my cover saves for those. What do you mean cover saves, they dont do damage, theres no save to make. He says anything shooting through a unit grants a cover save, even things meant to take cover saves away like markerlights. I try to convince him this was not true in 4th and has no such rule in 5th, but he threw a fit (remember this was an attempted friendly game at least) and said he wouldnt let this go.

Wanting to continue the game I let it go, he made all 3 saves then his tactical squad tore my pathfinders up next round, and his devastators heavily contributed to my loss.

I took the markerlights specifically to take away the advantage of cover saves from units, but if he is right there cost to kill point ratio just went up so much there virtually worthless.

Of course he's not right.

You only get saves against WOUNDS caused.

No wounds, no cover saves.

Sounds like a big baby to me.

Surely that would negate the point of markerlights all together, it would just make you take your cover save a little early...

Thats pretty much total BS. But things like this typically happen in 40k. People get an idea of a rule in their heads and they won't budge about it.

Yep, marker lights can degrade or even remove cover saves, regardless of source of cover save. But out of curiosity, what did you shoot and wound him with, since he could still get his regular 3+ armor save if it applies.............

You miss the point of the thread, the marine player was taking cover saves against the marker light hits, so he could say the marker lights never hit.
