So, I just bought an IG army off of a guy which includes 2 Basilisks. Frankly, until IG gets a new list and I get more Heavy Support slots, I can't foresee myself ever using 2 Bassies at one time in an army, when at least two of those slots can be better used with Leman Russes. Not to mention the fact that I have no Hellhounds. Now, noticing the fact that Bassies and Hellhounds both use a Chimera chassis, I'm wondering how easily I can convert myself a Hellhound out of one of the Bassies.

Seems to me the easiest way would be to buy one of the cool FW Hellhound kits and I should just be able to cut out/off the Bassie parts and pop the Hellhound kit on. I figure a cheaper method, though, would be to find a Chimera turret and convert it up with a Terminator Heavy Flamer and find some toy fuel barrels for the back.

Has anyone tried this?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

I dunno..... I think Basilisks are pretty good personally. I have one and often wish I had 2, and wouldn't mind 3 Russes are great, but 3 basilisks hiding somewhere with indirect fire can make marines wanna poop in the power armor.

For converting though, depending on how handy you think you are, you could try and scratch build your own turret using plasitcard and a heavy flamer bit and since the back of the tank will be open like the forge world ones, you can maybe find a small can or piece of pvc pipe that can fit in there, to try and make the 1 big tank look like the FW ones have.

If you go to my website (press the [WWW] button), you'll see that I basically scratchbuilt a couple Hellhounds around a couple Chimera chassis.

I can tell you that making nice turrets and guns is difficult, even if you have bitz to work with (I had a couple spare Russ turrets that I recut).

Starting with a Basilisk, you'll have some difficulty, as the rear deck has a big raised section right where you'd want to put your "fuel tanks".

But if you're willing to tear the thing apart and scratchbuild with card, it's definitely doable.

I'd say, leave off the cannon, now you have a flatbed chimera. fill the flat bed with either small fuel barrels (from GW or WWII models) or one huge fuel tank (soda can, pegasus chemical plant kit or bit of pipping). Make piles or hoses connecting them all. Use the ordinary stormbolter/stubber turret but put a long pipe on it and cap it with a flamer nozzle.

Give it gunner wearing a full face mask, gas mask looking thing.

Nice Hellhound, JohnHwangDD! That's the style of turret I'd really like to go for, although I'm willing to settle for something less cool.

And as I was thinking about it last night, the Pegasus Chemical Plant kit-style of huge fuel tank was exactly what I was thinking of going for.

I'm looking forward to getting the Bassies as they're a model I've never messed with before.

One other thought I had was getting the Baneblade sprue that comes with the turrets for its various weapons - that way it'd give me some turrets to work with for a variety of projects. Can anyone tell me what's on that sprue?

Okay, so I got the package in the mail yesterday and the basilisks got a little beat up by the postal service - but frankly, that made it all the easier to pull the basilisk platform off the back of one. Seeing that makes me realize that converting these guys into Hellhounds could be a cinch.

In fact, I'm giving a little thought to making the back ends modular, so that I can slide in the Basilisk platform when I want or replace it with a fuel tank. And make the Inferno turret interchangeable with a regular hatch.

Double my fun!
