I keep running out of points.

I'm thinking if I do a LD10 Prince and BSB, I only really have points for a scroll caddy. Is
the Archmage a suitable replacement for two mages? (Assuming I drop the Prince, that
is).

It's very annoying.

So far my concept includes Spearmen, White Lions (I'm thinking it'll be my main anvil),
Reavers (5 + Muso) and Swordsmen (10 models).

Have you thought of the archmage/ BSB combo.

If you know your enemy loves magic:
Archmage- x3 dispel scrools, staff of +1 dispel 9so you get +2 to dispel) The the banner of scorcery.

He gets with his 4 spells + drain magic - between 7-9 power dice so he can reliably go for 3 spells per turn.

BSB just stops your units from running away.

If you are going a prince, a BSB is pretty much mandatory. 2 mages aren't much better than 1 (you'll get off a couple of extra spells per game) so just go with the scroll caddy if short on points.

to expect that I can't get everything that I want.

Where do you hide an archmage?

A friend of mine use's phonix guard as body guard.

Depends on who you are fighting, but either in terrain if you don't need LOS and will be safe from enemy magic or start in your best combat unit then leap out the back of the unit and hide out in the back (obviously avoid flyers, and shooters)

I'll try Phoenix Guard first, then try leaping him out later.

This won't be until the end of this year, but it's good to
start thinking about it.

I've got the big all plastic box set for HEs, the giant, all plastic one (traded in my winings for best army and best general for the last year).

So I'll be doing HEs too Malfred.

I think you should restrict yourself in characters to 4 levels of magic and 1 leadership character. This can either be a prince and 2 level 2's or an archmage and a BSB. I like the archmage/bsb better the prince's leadership 10 has saved me a number of times. I don't think high elves can afford both a prince and a BSB unless you are playing super fast army (dragon/bunch of knights)

I started another thread recently, but this is as good a time as any to get any final updates.

Going with Archmage and mounted BSB with banner of battle. No idea how to equip the
Archmage. I'm afraid of using a naked Archmage, but staff +1 casting and scrolls sounds
like a good baseline to start with for this weekend.

A nice magic nerf is the staff of +1 dispel rolls (for total of +2 to dispel) and 3 dispel scrolls.

You would be crazy not to take the item that lets you pick your spells though with a level 4 mage.
