Hey all, an interesting thought struck me a bit ago. What do you think the chances are that GW would be willing to sculpt/release customizable scenery pieces, similar to the Imperial Sector kits, but for Xenos? For example, customizable Eldar Craftworld, Tau Colony, or Ork Camp kits. Even an Imperial Fortress kit would be interesting (possessing the material to construct your own relatively intact IG garrison! A Barracks kit, a Depot kit, et cetera et cetera!). This is as easy to scratch build as the current kits, but GW could make a pretty penny off those unwilling to model their own, or simply willing to try new kits. Thoughts?

Probably not simply because Marines make up, what, half the armies played?

Throw in guard, Chaos and Inquisition and you've got much more than 50% human armies.

A Xenos kit would only appeal to a small fraction of players and not all of them would buy it.

So from a pure money point of view I don't see it happening.

Besides how often do you see people making non-human terrain on their own?

All that being said I can see an Ork kit as most likely it would be easy to do and I think Orks are the most popular of the aliens.

Eldar would be hard since it require that GW make something so inhumanly graceful it shames all human constructions. Yeah, good luck with that.

Tau wouldn't be too hard it's just conventional near future stuff.

Necrons would be pretty easy too but unimaginative. Just geometric shapes with patterns.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Everyone wants a piece of the Imperium, 'most' inhabitable planets are either in the Imperium or wrested from it. Imperial cities are well built and their ruins last a long time.

Even if there are no Imperium players in a campaign it is not unreasonable for the ruins fought over to be of Imperium origin.

Ork buildings are usually scratchbuilt, even by the orks. There is no shortage of plastic bottles nad pudding bowls to make Tau buildings from. necrons emerge from hole in the ground and all they need is the odd obelisk.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Prolly not going to happen. And according to the new 'fluff', the Imperium is on its collective heels, so all the battles are taking place in Imperial planets! Problem solved.

Sounds like Escher's stuff mixed with Cthulhu-like non-Euclidian buildings, towering monstrosities of physically impossible proportions, and a general sense of everything being "wrong."

I'd say it's not really a case of Imperial cities withstanding the test of time, but that ruined buildings are like weeds that spontaneously sprout in all manners of planets and spread like wildfire. When the INQ drops exterminatus bombs, I bet it drops the seeds of ruined buildings so the planets inevitably become inhospitable. Then people fight over it years later in a twisted form of gladiatorial combat.

The release thread on news and Rumours shows some Eldar buildings including a landing pad and what looks to be a listening post; likely an upcoming Forgeworld kit.

No, not really that's more my image of Necron stuff. Necron tombs should be filled with impossible angles and time paradoxs.

Eldar and elfs in general have a problem that they are humans to the ultimate, anything we do they do but 100x better.

So it's hard to capture that whole concept of unbearable beauty unless, y'know, you can do it yourself.

It's like trying to role play someone smarter than you are.

So usually you just end up with big hats and call it a day.

I have seen wild west buildings ork-ified with great success. I love the look. If I owned the terrain, I would consider modelling sombreros onto some of my boyz.

If it's Forgeworld, then nevermind.

KK's interest, I'm guessing, comes from the amazing Cities of Death kits that
people buy tons of to make wonderful ruined scenery. They're able to
buy tons of it because it's well priced and modular. Anything Forgeworld
does is not going to be well priced for large projects. It might look good
on the table, but it won't have that Cities of Death accessibility.

IIRC, there is a Chaos Spiky kit to spice up terrian for a Daemon world look. However, GW just don't accept the fact that spikes do NOT make something inherently evil.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

There are some Orky barricades coming out. There's also an Ork building in the 5th Ed book that looks like it could be a kit.

In fact, that'd be a good way of doing a non-Imperial building. You make a single kit - say the little Orky hut in the rulebook - but you make it so that it can be expanded upon (outwards and upwards) with more Orky huts.

You only need to make one kit, it just gets bigger and bigger the more you buy.
