Just arrived on my desk - had a quick look through, haven't read anything. First impressions meh - tale of four gamers is just intros from the 1 page per person, usual new models blah blah...but then, MY GOSH IT LOOKS GOOD!!!! Profile for using Angron, plenty of modeling articles, showcase of Dave Andrews, the next painting masters....think may be late getting back from lunch like the good old days. Anyone else had it yet? What do you think? Mark Latham is still editor - keep it up buddy
Does this mean Jervis was right, it's a pendulum, and it's about to swing back and hit us 'older' folk hard in the face with some good articles?????
I edited your title to make the swear a little less obvious --yakface

It certainly looks like it's heading in the right direction.
Who knows I may even call it a good magazine again one day. lol

That's the August issue right? I guess the UK is still one ahead of the other issues..
I hope we go back a few years to get more useful articles.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Yep, Augusts.
Back from lunch, have read the dave andrews bit. The pics are the best bit, nothing that in depth. The pictures are quite inspiring, my titan production plant may be in a similar style to his wizards tower, however they need to put more 'detailed' photos in the white space still. Better than nothing, and still looking forward to reading the rest.
In the upcoming releases bit they say a bit about the SMs stuff, and mention that support weapons are coming back. Do you think that means it will come with a choice of weapon or is this just too hopeful?

that's what got me thinking....it says weapons, either a typo, or there's more in the pipeline? Does the thunderfire come with an alternative? Mole mortar or something?

no, it was in his reply to my letter. He said that WD changes like a pendulum, we have a phase where it's 'not to our tastes' followed by a good one. I was saying I hope it's a pendulum swinging back with good stuff from the last couple of issues.
I do try not to take things out of context as that's naughty and what terrorists do (or do not depending on your standpoint )

I'm fairly sure that most of the pillorying was "in context" at the start of most of the "Standard Bearer" conversations.

Conversion beamer I think. Believe the thunderfire has 3 fire modes to selet from.

I'm sure it can't be much worse than the previous year of White Dwarf. Relentless adverts, dumbed down content and an entire third of the magazine which means nothing to me. In fairness, I must praise the 'Eavy Metal masterclass guides, which are excellent.
It sounds ok this time round, but it'll need some ruthless editing to get it back into shape.

read a little more last night (was distracted by new dvd) and even the beginers stuff was interesting enough to read. There's a sort of beginers guide to coverting/personalising models, and while I've heard it all before, there's some nice new examples. Similar to past ones but still new things to try.
Also a tale of four gamers - there's no way you can beat the original due to the loss of grand openings, but this one looks a heck of a lot more promising that themeagre attempt last time. It would appear that they've purposly chosen the gamers to getdifferent styles across, and each month set a small challenge to individual players. They also get a little 'tips box' each like the old days! Actually looking forward to the next instalment.
I'm happyt again with you WD! please keep it up.

a tale of four games would be a nice regular article..
and I wouls like to see it cross over into 40k.. I would love to see it with the "average" gamer and not the "staff"..
would love to see more input from out of house.. (like back in the old days).. I have a collection of mags from when I started (issue 173 is my first IIRC) and I love to go back and read the articles from players.. tactics and play style from players etc.
I would love to see the WD go back to by gamers for gamers with gamers input..

I really like the new issue as well, sadly I seemed to start getting it in the not so good phase you all talked about, but am glad to see it becoming more usefull to people, and too make it even better free gifts in the next issue-what more could you want from it!
(please note thats a rhetorical question, please don't answer it!!)

OK, even I will admit that the Red Bolters on the Ultramarines was a bit much.
So, no, not that,
I was talking more about the content, vs. the colors.
