The way I'm reading it, the Officer's command squad is considered a retinue, and as such the Officer cannot be singled out in Assault (Rulebook pg 48). That being the case, does that make it feasible for Officers to use Power Fists again, or are they too expensive, especially since they will not gain +1A for another CCW? Would a Power Weapon be more feasible instead?

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

T3 I3 W1 models do not belong in combat. Moreover they're S6, which isn't special, swing last (so they'll die before they can swing as most units can handle 5 Guardsmen), and they've lost an attack with the new rules for power fists.

So no. Power fists are not a good choice.

It's a Guard army. Buy more guns.

No weapon is best seeing as command squads should be the last squad to see combat.

dammit, others got there first.

Hell no, power fists are not viable in guard army, for reasons as above.

that and even a bunch of firewarriors are likely to kill the 5 men in a command squad before I1 turns up

Vompire, welcome to Dakka. Please use punctuation in the future. You’re arguments will be sign with greater merit and you’ll avoid people calling you on it.

In 4th edition, there was a sharp debate among IG players whether to even include any Counter charge at all. I Liked Rough riders, others simply went for more guns. The argument was that guns are useless against enemies in combat, so some countercharge can really help.

In 5th, however, the fast, brutal way IG squads will lose combat coupled with the end of the Consolidation Shuffle means more chances to shoot the enemy at short range, and dramatically decreases the value and utility of any countercharge element at all. Since, as pointed out, Fisting officers are among the weaker choices to begin with, I'd have to say no, it's not a good idea.

that's a very good point actually, my 15 lovingly converted rough riders are now probably of less value than they used to be simply because i can use more heavy weapons all game, rather than butcher 3 powerful squads once.

Course I'm not going to let anyone i play know that..
