Hi there.

It's been a while since I've posted a guard list up for rating, and I've been working on a new list lately. This list is designed for the odd game at my FLGS, against randoms.

I understand most people dislike the use of weapons in the HQ command squad, but I do not wish to change that aspect. (I like my plasma )

The List....

HQ 300

Command Squad 110
HSO and 4 plasma gunners

Fire Support Squad 80
3 Heavy Bolters

Anti-tank Support Squad 110
3 Lascannons

Troops

Infantry Platoon 250

Command 80
Junior Officer, 4 plasma gunners

2 Infantry squads @ 85
Plasma gun, auto cannon

Infantry Platoon

Command 80
Junior Officer, 4 plasma gunners

Infantry Squad 85
Plasma Missile Launcher

Infantry Squad 70
Plasma

Inducted Sisters

Battle Sister Squad 150
10, Vet superior w/ plasma pistol
flamer, storm bolter

Canoness 61
book of st. Lucius, power weapon, bolt pistol

Total= 996

The purpose of the army is to stand there and shoot . I've gone heavy on plasma due to the fact that I loathe marines. I was going to put in an armoured fist over the sisters, however the lone chimera would give the opponent something to shoot at with his heavy weapons. This list maximises my advantages of numbers as well as having a suprior range advantage. The sisters are in there due to the fact that I own the models (which is why I went for flamer, SB) and like the idea of having a joint force.

I nearly opted for a lone leman russ over the inducted sisters or possibly dropping the heavy bolter squad as well and
fielding 2 russ'. The reason I didn't is i usually play on a fairly heavily terrained board, as well as the fact that taking no tanks at all will waste my opponents lascannons etc.

Stats:
88 models. 11 power armour
16 plasma guns, 1 plasma pistol
3 heavy bolters
2 autocannon
3 lascannons
1 Missile launcher

I really like this list. I don't have too many guardsmen left, and seeing them sitting on my desk is quite a sight. 88 models including the sisters is something that I was happy to achieve, with my fire power in mind.

And to make this into a 1500 list, I simply add 3 Leman Russ and a Rhino transport

as a sisters player who sometimes uses guard, that squad is kinda weak. I have no idea why they include storm bolters, or the particular sculpt of the vet. It makes the box only have 7-8 usable models. If the squad isn't mounted in a rhino, then they probably should have 2x melta. (if it is then melta Hflamer, or flamer Hflamer) personally i like seraphim squads because they are great counter attack squads, can go tank hunting, and can provide very mobile leadership 9 bubbles. They also cost about double a normal sister per model, so i dont know if you could fit them in your list.

can't you save points by giving a JO an honorifica instead of taking an HSO?

In 5th, foot slogging sisters can take Flamer-Heavy Flamer when allied to Guard. They babysit behind the Guard line, or advance with Guard in front. If anything assaults the Guard, they break and the next turn the Sisters get their Divine Guidance on.

In this list the Guard Infantry should be providing the Anti-Tank in the form of Lascannons.

You might need more than 3 Lascannons for anti-tank.

That said, it looks like a good list. Just be careful with that Plasma... it's hot!

No standard bearer, no Iron Discipline, an HSO rather than JO w/HI. A Missile Launcher. A squad without a Heavy Weapon. Toy squads (SoBs) at 1000.

Ouch... this could end badly for the Guard.

If you knew anything about me you'd know that I specifically advocate not making cookie-cutter lists, and that I always emphasise that you can make a list better whilst still making it 'your list'.

To that end, keep the SoBs, as there's nothing specifically wrong with them as a unit. That said, if you're going to take a toy unit like SoBs at 1000 points, make them the best damned unit of SoBs that you can get for the points.

Then, go and fix all the problems with the actual list - no Iron Discpline, no Standard Bearer, HSO rather than JO w/HI, that damned Missile Launcher and the squad with no heavy weapon.

Battlekai, ya might want to swap out your veteran sister superior's plasma pistol for an eviscerator. That way the squad can sort of serve as a counter-assault unit. At any rate, she could drop one MEQ or so a turn and ya already have enough plasma in the list anyway. And it would be a pretty easy conversion too.
