I've put together quite a collection of fantasy miniatures since I started with "red-box" D&D back in 81, but none of them matches the quality of the Reaper line I've been buying from since they showed up at the
FLGS back in the Dark Heaven line. Since then, they've just gotten better, just like my painting skills
For your perusal, here's some of my Reaper models that were used in my fantasy
RPG, a campaing that has been ongoing for the last 15 years or so in one iteration or another. Please forgive the fuzziness and mold lines; as I posted in my Eldar army log, the mold lines are my enemy and the fuzziness is from the humidity when I sealed them.
Callus Darklore: this model was a
DM's love at first sight, obviously a necromancer of some kind... I used him as the evil alter-ego of the party's benefactor. I actually used a different mini when representing the "good" version of him which I have sadly lost, but was very effective at "disguising" him.
Krisitanna: this is a Warlord model in the "heroic" 28mm range that was used as my wife's duellist. She comes with this awesome squire/page that I'm sure is a girl - it's got a skirt on under that tabard. I green-stuffed the base to represent wood floorboards, as well as the scabbards at Kristi's feet and the backpack at the page's. I
GS'ed a shield as well, but didn't like to device I painted on it so I left it out. Not entirely happy with the eyes on either figure, but I'm practicing new techniques to get better.
Lysette: another Warlord figure. The cat on her base is from the Reaper familiar pack; I
GS'ed the base on this one as well to represent a cobbled street with raised sidewalk, that's what the cat's standing on. The model's eyes were painted to represent the non-humaness of the character as well as the mystic might she wields. I contemplated doing
OSL from the crystal or her eyes, but realized that my skills aren't quite up to the task yet.
Here's a Black Orc from the Dark Heaven Legends line-up, painted as an orc from the Heroscape game, where he's now a warlord but was one of a bevy of humanoid assailants in our fantasy
RPG. I kinda dig the blue skin, very different from the typical greenskins running around and appropriate for a "black orc" - the bronze gear is also typical of
HS orcs. He got dropped when I was taking pics and his sword got chipped a bit.
Thomas Bronwyn: the
NPC cleric in the group, curiously bearing a crucifix on his model. This figure was a study in neutral colors and earth tones. I think a bit more shading/highlighting on his undervestment (the white part at the bottom) as well as actually painting eyes would improve him a bit, but the eyes were cast funny and I could only make out one of them, so I skipped them. I love the illumination on the scroll, my second successful attempt at freehand.
Lastly, a goblin from the D&D 3E miniatures box set (came with an ogre, dire rat, hobgoblin, displacer beast - nice kit overall) also painted as a Heroscape orc. There's two of them, identical, and I use them as the warlord's bodyguard. It's hard to see, but they have these little pouches on a holster across the chest and over the shoulder. I count them as

grenades/bombs

while playing
HS.
I've got a few more laying around that I haven't taken pics of and will put them up when I get a chance. Let me know what you think!
