If you are reading this, then you are on dakka's new server. We have had two servers running at the same time for a while and flicked the switch to send everyone over to this one today. You may experience some minor side effects, namely your URL bar might show 'web2.dakkadakka.com' for a couple of days, and if you have autologin enabled, you may need to log in again as your cookies may have been reset.

The minor glitches will iron themselves out over the next few days as DNS updates, and with our new server dakka will be faster than ever and is better positioned than any time in its history. Any other problems, please mention them in our Nuts and Bolts forum. Enjoy!

my God, this just like the time someone broke into my house and replaced everything with an exact duplicate!

There is not really any way to make things faster as it was already running at the maximum possible speed, where limitations were entirely down to network latency, your own desktops, ISPs, etc. What it does mean is that we have a lot more room to continue growing. Traffic has more than doubled since our last upgrade, so this is just future proofing ensuring that nobody gets any server slow down in the future, and because it is smarter to upgrade when nothing is wrong than when things start crumbling down.

If all of us Dakkaites could stack our egos we would climb to the moon. Now that would be something. We could even get our own entry in Wikipedia

I can't wait till the day comes and Dakka upgrades to a quantum computer for its server and we can all see our posts come up even before we hit the submit button, before we even write the post even. Now that will be fast.

Just curious, what kind of server is it? Is there need for more power?

As mentioned, there was not a desperate need for a new server just yet but it is future proofing. We tripled the RAM giving us way more space for caching (almost all of the database can be handled in-memory now) and much more hard drive space for the dakka gallery that is coming somewhat soon.
