Sweet jump pack on Borer's duel. I wish we could get blown up views of the squads, though. Mathieu Fontaine's "Last Legionnaire" is also extremely nice - there are some better photos of it on B&C that really do it more justice.

Not too hard to get around-right click on the desired image, choose "Properties" there at the bottom (on Explorer anyway), copy the complete address line (its long, make sure to scroll all the way to the end), and paste it into your browser URL field.

For example, on the Slayer Sword, it would be:

Enjoy

That's how it's always been done when there are several good painters. I remember an interview with Joe Orteza saying the same thing a few years ago.

I'm not a fan of technique trumping artistic impression. Probably why the European competitions are more interesting to me.

If this is a competition to garner attention to models and have them sell, then having technique be the deciding factor is akin to painting by numbers vs painting a blank canvas.

That said I'm impressed with the results from all the categories except 40K Large Monster. It may be the photos, but none of them stand out to me.

The Youngbloods continue to bowl me over with their ability.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that some of those youngbloods got a little "help" on their painting. I mean parents do it all the time for their kids school projects.

My guess is that for the most part they don't. A good standard can be achieved with dedication and practice. If someone likes taking a lot of time to paint miniatures then chances are that the result will have some quality.

And to get help from parents these parents need have some competence in miniature painting too. It's not like they will be able to help just because they are parents.

Of course there is a change for that like there are people who cheat by buying painted miniatures and entering these in competitions as their own. But in the case of kids getting help from parents it is rather hard to show evidence of manipulation.

I do not think it is just you but a lot of people who underestimate the power of persistence.

Well, some great stuff, but there's just not enough depth for so many US GDs. I think it's partly unfair to the best entries, as as a whole the US contests are no where near UK, France, Spain...

The young looking lad, "Dylan Gauker" made an impression with two properly Warhammer Gothic entries.

A dissappointingly low amount of Space Marines. Maybe if they open up the WFB category to Space Marines we can get to see more Space Marines.

You really can't tell just from the pictures. Some minis photograph better than others. And placings aren't always just about which paint job is prettiest. Different techniques, different aesthetics, mistakes that don't necessarily show up on the photos... all affect how well a mini does.

I vaguely recall someone a few years back, after people had been complaining that his mini didn't place, mentioning that it got bumped out in the final cut because he still had some blutac stuck in its neck socket. Not something that showed in the pictures, but a part of the overall 'attention to detail' part of the score.

I'm all about the "innocent until proven guilty" thing.

I'll believe that these kids painted their own stuff until someone shows me evidence to the contrary... at which time I'd weigh the evidence before deciding.

I agree with magickal memories.

I dont have much experience in seeing youngbloods work at GD's. But judging by the aforementioned Dylan Gauker, he has been painting for a fair amount of years now and he just turned 18.

While it may be possible that he had some help early on, judging by what I see him paint right in front of me when we paint at Tower games, I can use that as an example and say that with all probability, youngbloods are indeed painting their own models.
