I.G. Has so many things against it in a kill point mission it’s ridiculous. Here is a small list of the Big ones.
--Officer Squads give 2 KP for a unit that’s 40-80 points.
--Every regular Infantry Platoon brings 4 kill points, mine cost 240 points (26 total in my 1750 list)
--Guard have some of the softest unit, and IS the softest army in the game.
--Guards most effective or efficient units are normally 5-6 man squads. This makes annihilating them easy.

In the rumors board we learned that the GT missions will be a mix of the book mission. It’s suggested that there will be 2 yes TWO kill point missions at the LVGT. Does this mean that we’ll see no Guard armies in the top ranks? To me it feels like an auto lose. Here are some of my ideas of IG in a KP mission, but they’re not enough to win, I need your help.

One, I know guard should always focus, but in the KP mission it’s even more important.
Fire at one target until its dead! One marine running away to avoid giving a kill point is damn annoying, avoid letting it happen at all costs.

Target the largest threat first. Look at the opponent’s army and calculate which unit you think will earn the most kill point over the course of the game, wipe it out, and then move to the next killy target.

Do not forget unit spacing. One multi charge will ruin you in a kill point mission. There is little chance of them surviving CC, lose only one unit at a time.

So, that’s a few of my thoughts on IG in KP. I know they’re basic common sense things, it helped me to write it out, and I’d like some deeper insight into this. I don’t like feeling like I have no chance because of the army I play. Thanks in advance.

Anyone? Thoughts on how an IG army can seize victory against a force worth 1/2 as many KP? Or at least a way to mitigate losses?

Another thing that I thought of is combining squads of Sentinels as opposed to running 3 single sentinel squads. I think it's worth trading the ability to fire at multiple targets to feild fewer and hard to annihilate kill points.

All I can say for people planning to bring guard to the GT in vegas...

build your list to table your opponent. Pretend the KP mission doesn't exist and make a mean, ruthless offensive list.

You aren't going to out nickle-dime anyone in a KP game.

Please check out my current project blog

Feel free to PM me to talk about your list ideas....

Mostly, because you could be playing another Guard player, so you might win.

I've tabled the 180 Ork horde before with a somewhat anti-MEQ list.

Took me 7 turns, though.

I don't think it's all that bad for IG in KP games. Only played two so far with a win and a draw but it's ot the gloom and doom I thought it would be. And yes, I play a lot of Infantry with sentinels and a couple of Hellhounds.
We'll see how I do at Vegas...................

If they wipe out a whole squad with shooting, fine, but if they don't can't you just run off behind terrain with the surviving members? And whatever they're shooting at should be getting a 4+ cover save.

I don't really see how it's THAT big of an issue, and in Dawn of War setups guard rock, going first OR second.
