I am new to the game and planning my first army, and would really appreciate some guidance with this.

I would like to build a 1500pt army around only the following models:

Daemon Prince of Nurgle

Chaos Space Marine Obliterators

Typhus Herald of Nurgle

Chaos Space Marine Terminators

Chaos Space Marines Plague Marines

I don't really like vehicle models, but I'll take transports if required.

So what composition of forces would you recommend?

I haven't yet mathed out who gets what upgrades because I need to do more research there, but this was my initial draft of a plan. I divided them into 3 groups just to imagine how I might play them.

Command Force:

(HQ) Daemon Prince of Nurgle

(Troop) 7 Chaos Space Marines Plague Marines

(Heavy) Chaos Space Marine Obliterator

Advance Force:

(Troop) 7 Chaos Space Marines Plague Marines + Rhino

(Troop) 7 Chaos Space Marines Plague Marines + Rhino

(Heavy) Chaos Space Marine Obliterator

Follow Up Force:

(HQ?) Typhus Herald of Nurgle

(Elite) 4 Chaos Space Marine Terminators (bodyguards for Typhus)

(Heavy) Chaos Space Marine Obliterator

1500pts isn't that much, so I think you've got some problems. If we just look at your minimum desired army:

HQ
Daemon Prince of Nurgle w/ MoN, Wings power (180)
Typhus Herald of Nurgle (225)

Elite
7 Chaos Terminators w/ MoN, HF, 2x combiMelt, Champ w/ PF (275)

Troops
2x 7 Plague Marines w/ Icon, 2 Plasma, Champ w/ PF (236 ea)
2x Rhino (35 ea)

Heavy
2x Obliterator (75 ea)

Total around 1375 - only 125 pts unspent.

Realistically, you want a 3rd Troops, so you need another 275 pts, which probably comes from dropping Typhus down to a regular Terminator Lord and cutting a Terminator (Termie Lord joins to get total 7).

Two troop units is too less. I'd drop Typhus and add a footslogging PM squad.

First, thank you for responding. But please look again, as I did list 3 Troop squads already (3x 7 PMs)
and only 4 Terminators (to make a 5-man squad with Typhus, incase I ever get a Land Raider).

Equipment and weapons of the models?

I'm too much of a noob to know how I should gear them up yet. I need to do a lot more forum lurking first. I was just taking the approach of choosing which models I liked first, then figure out later how to tweak them for game effectiveness.

This list is a good starting point. I'd drop Typhus, add 2 Obliterators, and a third unit of Plague Marines with 2 plasma guns.

You made me realize I was trying to cram too much into a 1500pt army, so now these are the models I plan to purchase. Am I making any mistakes?

I know, I'd like more diversity, but not at the cost of gimping my first attempt at an army. I'm thinking if I expand the revised list above to 2000 points, I could then add this squad:

(HQ) Typhus Herald of Nurgle

(Elite) 4 Chaos Space Marine Terminators

(Heavy) Land Raider

Though then I might have to trade out one of the original squads of 7 PMs to upgrade this new squad properly .... but it would then give me good lists for both 1500 and 2000 pt games. Am I right?

It's worth noting that you could just use the Typhus model as a Terminator Champ.

One more question: Better to have 4 squads of 7 PMs or 3 squads of 9 ? (using the lost PMs points elsewhere)
