need tips for painting solid areas of gold, but it needs to be muted rather than shiney.
the base colours for my SM's will be gold, and i needed some tips how to achieve a good colour rather than a boring flat gold.

personally i often glaze metallics with normal, opaque paints.
The more glazing you do, and the better colour chosen the more muted, weathered effect you`ll get.
for shiny gold for example i shade by glazing a couple of times with scorched brown. for a muted look i`d go for a colder tone.

Work in threes, basecolor, highlight a lighter color, then another highlight of another color. this is what i do for my UM:basecoat brazen braas, 1st highlight shining gold, 2nd highlight, burnished gold.

Quickest way I do it is prime black, drybrush Boltgun/chainmail and then drybrush your gold over this. Wash with chestnut then another light drybrush with gold.

what i do for gold is use the darker of the golds(cant remember what its called) and after it drys i use brown ink. it makes it a little bronze looking but still gold. dont use to much ink though, a little at a time is better.

I usually do like this: Paint the entire area you want gold with Khemri Brown, then paint it Shining Gold, drench it in Devlan Mud or carefully apply Brown Ink and finally highlight with Burnished Gold.

Found this way to be really quick and goodlooking.

thanks fabbes, just working out a gold iron hands paint job, the black looks good, but its too basic looking and lacks detail that i can get with gold.
