Too Human is hitting store shelves starting yesterday and depending on your region you may still have to wait a bit(up to the 29th). I played a decent chunk last night and its definately not a 5.5 like gamespy gave it, but more like the ~8/10 that Gamepro and IGN (7.8) gave it. Fun game with lots of customisable gear/loot/character options and quick paced combat. A good overall blending of RPG and Action generes. Some people like the story and some do not (generalyy because of the fusion of old norse speak mixed with sci-fi lingo and terminology), but overall a cool sci-fi twist on the myths.

Game Play: 8/10 - Easy for new players, challenging and deep for veterens and min/maxers especially for characters over level 35.

Story: 8.5/10 - Love the blending of old english/norse with the sci-fi (Others and younger players may find it awkward, so more like a 6/10 for them)

Graphics: 7/10 - Some great visuals, intermixed with a few odd choices (such as individual modeling of eyebrows, hehe).

Audio: 9/10 - If you have 5.1 or 7.1 this game is going to rock your house. The score has some really pulse pounding music in an interesting flight of the valkyries / rock fusion. Some of my favorite pieces so far were heard during battles in the secret arenas. Sound effects are great, some of the voice acting people will not agree with.

My Overall Rating: 8/10 (Solid game overall. Entertaining with drop in drop out co-op. Basically one of those games that I would recomend to at least be rented even if you think you wouldn't like it, because it has a good chance of surprising you and giving you something you love about games.)

Closing Comments: Can't wait for Too Human 2 and 3 in the coming years. This should be one great triology by the time its done. They have room to improve and the means to do so, while still adding even more cool things to do within the game.

The world would seem to disagree with you.

Pity to as I was really looking forward to a PC port of this.

Screw the world and play it yourself then =P It may not be classic Star Wars or groundbreaking in some of the storyline--but it's good, solid fun with a pretty solid story.

That's true. If they told their readers how awesomely ***t most games are they'd damage their livelihood. When I used to buy games I would flat-out ignore anything below a 9.5.

I just kind of get frustrated with everyone who buys something because of reviews.

There are demos on Live, on fileplanet, etc.
Demos=the win for deciding on what to buy!
Demos are like getting a date with the really easy girl in your psychology class, and then knowing you can always go back to her later.
Reviews are like getting with the prudes.

It never ends happily or quickly =(

If that made no sense--TOO BAD!

Problem is, why would you want to spend time playing a game that gets an aggregate review of 6-7 when you can play one that's gets 9s? Games aren't cheap if you're buying them, and take up your free time, so why waste valuable time with the mediocre one?

Rentals and demos solve the issue of deciding on what to buy...
If they can't impress you in one level of a demo--the game is most likely garbage.

I fully agree that demos have changed the way I buy games.

I pretty much won't buy a game unless I can demo it or it is an absolute no-brainer like GTA.

I can't believe that anyone who is on Xbox Live wouldn't at least give Too Human's demo a try before dismissing it.

I for one haven't tried it yet (been very busy at work) but I do plan to check it out when I get some time.

The most honest review is at Giant Bomb.com. Given that Jeff Gerstman owns that site, and that the people there are all the (good) ex-Gamespot employees (who all left when Jeff was sacked for not giving Kayne & Lynch a good review), I'd trust these guys above any other.

I think demo + review would be the most effective method to gauge the quality of a game. For example, the main criticism levelled at this game seems to be that it's incredibly monotonous. Gotta assume that you wouldn't get that feeling from a 10 minute demo. So yeah I think that reviews will always have their place, despite the fact that I used to find the vast majority of them misleading in their optimism.

The thing is the monotony of the game, according to alot of the reviews--is the cutscenes. Which you can skip, but then you miss out on the Aesir drop podding into battle alongside of what are essentially, dreads =s.

In all fairness the reviews I read that criticized the monotony of it also had the caveat that if this was the kind of thing you are into (killing lots of enemies, collect loot, repeat ad nauseum) then you would like it but that from an aesthetic standpoint they should have worked more on variety.

Actually its seems a lot of people agree with me. Its the reviewers that are all over the place. Some like some don't and some just want to pick it apart, but at the end of the day the game is fun. It probably isn't one of the most technically groundbreaking games for overall awesomeness, but some games (AssEffect, Halo 3, ect.) are also blown out of proportion in the other direction. This one seems to be getting underrated, as opposed to being overrated is all I'm saying from a purely is it fun or not perspective.

*Edit*
Also of note, many of the reviewers seem to keep saying something along the lines of this:

"Well sure if you like games like Diablo it's good.", ect.

Ummmm, yeah only a few million people enjoyed that series. Thats what I find so funny about most of the low review. They are being done by people who dislike the genere that this game falls into. Obviously you may not like everything about it if you don't even like diablo and other games in the genere that Too Human falls into.

best game on the 360 (other than the fluffy looking halo 3)

Agreed CoD4 is a great game. Hence I have it for PC, because its even better on it.

Sorry, but 360 can't touch it. Looks, sounds and controls better on PC.

It's also important to consider that reviewers aren't telling whether to buy it or not. They aren't playing games for the same reason most people do: fun.

It also skewers your perspective on games when you have to play games all day every day all year. There is a difference between playing a game because you want to and because you have to. I used to manage a FLVGS and getting to see them day in and day out and it changes how you approach gaming quite a bit.

Until this thread I had absolutely no idea that people still based their purchases on reviews. Even looking past the not-so-subtle corruption in game reviews, it’s pretty clear there’s a lot of group think and politics in reviews. Most reviews end up being based on the popularity of the celebrity designer involved, on the trendiness of game design elements, and all sorts of rubbish like that, and not on whether the game is actually, like, fun.

I’m not really that keen on another kill & loot game, Titan Quest should scratch that itch until Diablo 3, so I doubt I’ll be looking at this one. If I did take an interest, I’d look at the demo or check out a friend’s copy… I wouldn’t read any reviews – those things are worse than useless.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
