What kind of travelling are you expecting to do? If it's just local, glue a magnet inside the base of each figure and then transport them inside a steel tool box

I do not understand the words "cost effective" since I play 40K.

Sabol all the way.

This should really be in discussions not schedule a game.

This is definitely not the right place. Schedule a Game is used for finding games/setting up games/finding other gamers.

Moving to Dakka Discussions.

(in the future you probably want to title your posts more specifically).

Sabol are good; even if you use a different case with the foam inserts. A cheap pistol or rifle case can get you by. The Warstore has two kinds of cardboard boxes with Sabol-style 'pick and pull' foam inserts that are wicked cheap. Frankly, the GW cases are pretty decent.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Somewhere in south-central England.

Three basic ways some of which have been suggested above.

1. Steel toolbox and glue a magnet in the base of each figure. Just wad your vehicles and MCs with bubblewrap and put them in the base compartment. Good for short journeys.

2. Get cheapo plastic briefcases and have rippled foam cut to size. It works really well for individual figures as long as they don't have a lot of sticky-out bits. It doesn't work so well for vehicles -- you have to be more careful about the foam.

The GW figure cases are just a super expensive version of this idea, in black with some skulls on.

3. Purpose built army transporter (Sabol, etc) which usually have foam with cutouts that hold the figures and vehicles individually. You can get these in all sorts of sizes and prices up to the kind of rolling hard case that professional photographers use for putting their kit in the check-in baggage. This is really good if you are going a long way, without a car, and have a big army. Everything is done for you so it saves a lot of work, and you should find the cutout holes are good for storing your sticky-out bit figures.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I think if you're running the 180 ork mob the GW case is great. Not as great for vehicles.

What models are you transporting, how far will you typically be transporting them and WHAT will you be in?

I mean, are you playing Trukk Boyz? Mobs? Is this for travel to a tourney or for a car ride to your buddy's house or the game store?
