I've had good results with dheneb stone over black, then comando khaki. You can then highlight this with bleached bone up to white.

It works for drybrushing too.

I used it for all the bone in these models.

I've seen very fast and very nice results by painting the area white and then washing it with the new GW washes, I think Gryphon Sepia was the color that was used. It made a great bone color over the white and was consistent over a lot of models.

I often paint bone colors over a black primer.

You need to do two coats of a mix of Snakebite Leather and Skull White (or P3's Morrow white, it coats quite a bit better than the Citadel color). You might need to do more if you thin your paints too much.

After that, highlight up by mixing more white into your base mix, until you are highlighting with just the white.

Well, here's my Wraithbone method:

Black primer
Bubonic Brown basecoat
Progressively lighter shades of Bubonic Brown (by adding white)

Here's some pics of my Wraithbone:

Brother Bartius - what technique and colors did you use for the blue in those Dire Avengers - I want to add that color to my Tyranid force

I've had good experiences with Dheneb Stone too. In fact, i used it as the basecoat over which I layered yellow.

Don't prime black , prime white and wash over. It gives them a brighter look , kind of elderish.

Sorry I sold my eldar army. I was tring to cut down my armys. 6 was an army to far for me , cos I wanted them all to be big enough to play apoc. Elder titans were to expensive and hard to scratch build. Also I was going for Iyanden and yellow over black..nah. So I primed them white painted them yellow and washed them with orange/brown for depth. They are creatures of light afterall. I don't think any record of exists of them now. I did have some pics on my freeserve webspace , but orange has taken it over and they seem to be lost cyberspace now. Doesn't any one else prime white , or even grey. I prime everything else grey and them give it a wash with black magic wash to bring out the detail before painting it. I find it difficult to pick up the small details sometimes. Guess I'm just geting old and blind. I remember back in the day we never used to prime black.

2 good ways to do a good bleached bone...

either prime white, dip, then highlight

or prime white, wash with devlan mud a few times, then drybrush bleached bone

or prime black.. make a solid basecoat of deneb stone over the parts that are going to turn bone colored then work up from there

I don't have any pictures to post up,

but I use bestial brown over black primer

then 5 parts bestial brown and 2 parts snakebite leather

then equal parts bestial brown and snakebite leather

then 5 parts snakebite leather and 2 parts bestial brown

then straight snakebite lether.

then 5 parts snakebit leather and 2 parts bleached bone

qeual parts snakebite leather and bleached bone

5 parts bleached bone and 2 parts snakebite leather

stright bleached bone

then 5 parts bleached bone and 2 parts white

equal parts white and bleached bone

then 5 parts white and 2 parts bleached bone

and finally edge it with straight white..
