Very crisp and clean. I really like the way you did the whites with the blue shading. Care to explain how you got that effect?

Thanks for the reply and the compliment.
The white on the helmet was base white then a wash of enchanted blue. Then worked back up to whaite again with 3 or 4 coats of thinned white.
The white cloth is very similar. Lighter wash I think.

hi m8
good to see you got these posted at last, the photos look good but i have an idea to improve them.
i would try taking your photos with some white paper as the background, it will help the detal on the models stand out.
you need to get your fire dragons done and post some pics of them.
catch you later

Might you post how you did the vehicles. Did you use an airbrush, or extensive drybrush, white or black undercoat?

Many thanks for the replies and the nice comments guys.
@ Sturmtruppe - There is a lot more coming. Alot of WIP's at the moment. Now I've finished the kitchen I should have a bit more time to do some more painting.
@ brothersnafu - Agreed about the background however I thought everyone might also like to see my good DIY work in the kitchen, lol.
There is a lot more coming (as you should know - you've faced them often enough). It may give me the kick up the ass I need to paint more.
@mikeguth - Sure no problem. No airbrush involved. The Wave Serpents were done in two halves. Upper halve then lower. Then when complete both halves were glued together (I've found this way to be much neater and less hassle). The upper half Was a black undercoat followed by a midnight blue base coat. I then stippled on another four colours of blue (one of them a 50/50 mix of enchanted and ice blue). The other colours were Regal, Enchanted and Ultramarine blue. The highlight on the vehicle edge panels was done with straight Ice Blue. The underside, cockpit and weapons were done with a white undercoat then a bleached bone basecoat. This was then given a Kommando khaki wash then gradually drybrushed from Bleached bone up to white. The metalics were a tin bits base coat then a dry brush of Shining gold followed by Burnished Gold.
@ Orlanth - Cheers for the compliment. The reason I went with the larger dapple was that after I had dappled the first model I liked the effect (different from what I intended, I'll admit) however I'm glad it still holds to Alaitoc.
@ admin - How many photos can we post this way? And thanks for this great feature.

Your eldar look great! I just have one small criticism.
Your bases are not up to the same standard as the painting. I would AVOID covering the entire base in static grass. Basing always seems to work better if you glue sand down and paint it, and then apply sparse patches of static grass. As far as the edges of the base, any earth or green tone will do, I prefer black myself, as it gives the model separation from the table.
Here is a good article on what I'm talking about. Even though I think they are making a diorama or chariot base or something, the same techniques apply!
http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/skirmish/terrain/texture/default.htm
A good base will greatly enhance the look of your models, and a crappy base can take away from them.
Keep up the good work.

Sorry for the late reply whitedragon.
I realise that I could do more with the bases.
This approach was "based" more (pardon the pun) getting the models up to gaming standard more than anything else.
The tables we play on are straight static mats so they look acceptable on the table.
I will take your adice on board when I do some character models to post on here.
Cheers for the comments.

Thanks for the comments HBMC and smart alex.
How did you get that black effect on your vehicles?
Do you mean the texture or colour?
If you mean the colour - The upper half Was a black undercoat followed by a midnight blue base coat. I then stippled on another four colours of blue (one of them a 50/50 mix of enchanted and ice blue). The other colours were Regal, Enchanted and Ultramarine blue. The highlight on the vehicle edge panels was done with straight Ice Blue.
If you mean the texture then it was several light coats of satin finish varnish.
Cheers

Aside from the bases which you have covered (groan) my only complaint is the apparent yellow undersuits on 2 of the Avengers.
Otherwise, those are some very nice looking paint jobs and something I'd be proud of.

Dal'yth,
The yellow looks like the sashes or whatever they have wrapped around their arms. The undersuits are blue just like the rest of their armor.
I can't stress enough, however, how much those bases detract from your excellent paint job. Why spend the time to paint them nice only to half-@ss the bases? Seriously, I think you should try a few using the method GW has on their page. It's very simple and looks very very nice.
Or..
1) Paint base with PVA glue (just the top, not the edge)
2) Dip base in a tub of sand, until all the glue is covered by sand. Shake off excess and let dry for about 20 minutes.
3) Use citadel BROWN INK (thinned a little) and completely paint the sand brown.
4) After the ink is dry, lightly drybrush the sand with BLEACHED BONE.
5) Using a small amount of PVA glue, make 1 to 3 SMALL blobs of glue and spread the blobs out a bit with your brush to make them look sorta patchy, and dip the base in a tub of static grass, then blow off the excess.
6) Allow this to dry, and then paint the edge of the base in either SCORCHED BROWN or CHAOS BLACK.
It will look very awesome when finished, for very little effort, and much better than just dumping static grass on the base.
If you posted pics of the Dire Avengers on CoolminiorNot.com as is, you may get a 5 rating. If you redid their bases, you could probably get a 6-7 or even an 8! The paint jobs are really nice!

Hi folks, thanks for the replies.
Sorry It's taken so long to get back to you.
@ smart alex - No I'm not entering them in a competition. This is part of my second army. My first army is BT. I use them for gaming in my small gaming club of 4 members.
@whitedragon - I am taking your advice on board for my fire dragons (which I have almost completed). I am hoping to post them up by Sunday. The bases wont be finished by then however the basic paint jobs will be finished. I'll post pics before and after the basing.
@Schepp himself - I've just had a look at your eldar thread and I like your work. I would repeat coments made by other posters. It is neat work. You just need to look for smoothness in the finish. More thinner coats are better for this.
Looking forward to see what you all think of my five firedragons.

Hi again all.
Pics of my pre based fire dragons.
These guys are not sealed yet.
I struggled with the lighting to show the orange as it really looks.
I need to repaint the gems on the helmet crest as I've finally admitted defeat trying to paint gems that small. I'll probably just do them black.
Comments welcome.

How many shades of blue did you use.?
Did you use drybrushing, milking, or washes?

The fire dragons look great, although I think the tusk looks far too white.
I'd highly suggest starting the tusk with something dark like a Graveyard earth and then only highlighting up to a bleached bone (it appears as though you've gone all the way to a white?).
It just doesn't quite fit with the rest of the model.
But excellent, none-the-less.

Thank you.
I used 3 blues on this model. Midnight?, Ultra and Ice. Midnight? base then highlighted with Ultra then a thin final one of ice.
The only thing drybrushed were the gold parts.
I think the tusk looks far too white.
Agreed Yakface. I may give them a wash or two to dull them down before I finally seal them.
Thanks for the kind words

Agreed about the pics m8.
As for your second comment. If your shooting them, they've already done their job.
@smart_alex - I always start my gold with tin bits. Then if its fine detail do a shing gold base followed by a brown ink wash. This is followed by a burnished gold fine highlight.
@Therion - Thanks for the compliment about the Wave Serpents. Once I base the firedragons, I'll take new photos of them as I've not caught the light to show their true colour (orange). In real life the highlight is quite nice, IMHO.
I'll hopefully post pics this weekend.
Cheers
