I have a quick question. Has anyone figured out how to make a effective army centered around Abbadon? Try as I might I cant seem to make a solid army with him as a Hq for Chaos. Sure he kicks some major arse, but he cant win games by himself. (Yet)

the normal HQs are better than majority of the speical characaters of the csm codex. just treat him as normal lord with a termie squad maybe?

Abbadon will do one thing. Soak up bullets, so you could use him as a really expensive target.

You fail if you ever let Abbadon get shot.

Abaddon + Kharn.

Abaddon + Typhus.

Insert into Land Raider.

Drive into enemy.

Annihilate.

Can he make a squad of Terminators Fearless? Otherwise I would put him in with something that was. Either Possessed, Berzerkers or Plague Marines. Probably Plague Marines. "The Mr. Nasties".

You can't put 2 characters together in a transport. You would have to have them both join a squad.

put abaddon into anything that can soak up lots of wounds. then let him and his sword of ultimate death, pain, suffering, disease, blah blah blah, something clever regarding my love of miniatures.

sorry where was I? oh yeah... plague marines sound great, they soak up wounds. abbadon dishes em out... everyone is happy, except of course the guy who is desperate to keep some of his men alive. and you If the enemy has a vindicare

You can put two Charectors in a transport. You can have a unit of just two Charectors now.

I would probably skip the champ, too. May as well save some points.

Can you take 14 plague marines? Those would never ever die, and since abbadon can kill literally everything the only real way to kill that squad would be to have lots of little nids charge... oh wait! You have 14 guys with rapid firing bolters... and COUNTER ATTACK! yeah their busted

Pretty good deal for 600 points .

Note that as was pointed out in another thread all AP2 weapons, including plasma, ignores FNP now. Boo.

The other option is deepstrike him in with a squad of maybe 6 to 10 Terminators. Using an Icon. IoT gives everybody a 4++, which he already has. Woo.

Ill have to tinker around with a list tonight and post something up soon for everyone to pick apart. Ive always loved the fluff on Abbadon and would love to field him in friendly games. (dont know how viable he would be in a tourny army)

Don't forget defensive grendades as well. Everyone charging into that unit loses their bonus attacks for the charge.

LR Spammage.
Get one squad with Khorne Terminators, put Abbadon in, put them in a LR. Get another squad with Nurgle Terminators, and put Typhus in, and then put them in a LR. Add another random squad of Terminators and another random LR. And guess what? You still have all of your HS slots!

Try that in 'Ard Boyz, see how many death threats you get.

Ok here is a rough idea for a list that I came up with. Its set at 2000 pts, but I can expand to 2500 for the 'Ard Boys if people think its a viable list.

The thought is that I stick a Character in each of the land raiders and just shove em down my opponents neck. Hopefully this will draw some fire from the troops moveing into position to call down those Oblits from Orbit. I chose Autocannons because I dont really need any more Las cannons in this list and Heavy bolters just dont seem to do it for me.

Please feel free to add your two cents.

Now that I think about it if I did the 'Ard Boys route I think ill just add around 400 pts of Troops then use the other 100 pts to flush out the squads. (Term mainly)

Always give chaos termies combi weapons.

You don't have enough troops for 2k points, and only 2 LR won't scare anyone. What's in them will, but they won't.

Weak, IMO. Too many Oblits. Do you really need 6 with 2 LRs and no Lashes?

I think you could afford to drop the Autocannons, drop 2 or so Oblits, and get those squads some specials and Rhinos. Stelek is right, too: give those Termies some combi-weapons!

Took Kharn out and the Auto-Cannons and an Oblit squad and replaced them with Combi-Weapons on the Termies and a 3rd troop choice. With this option I will now use Kharns old squad to support Abbadon instead. Once again people do what you do best... pick it apart.

I like it, I'd get some kind of assault weapon for the regular squads though... like a flamer.

A guy here had a nice list with Abbadon and khorne berserkers in a landraider, backed up with a bunch of berserkers in rhinos. The larger squad allowed him to usually charge more than 1 squad at a time, doing a lot more damage. The enemy would often use their counter-chargers to try to fend him off, and the next turn the rhino-borne berserkers would unload and assault. If Abbadon died, it was an acceptable loss, as it allowed the rest of the army to get into position.

It was backed up by a vindicator and oblits.
