Specifically a melee combat game. Interesting.
IGN article.
A God of War clone set in 40K would be a lark. Even if it'll never be that good.

I'd like the idea of playing as a CSM. Berzerkers come to mind.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I've always loved the idea of an RTS view 40k game based on skirmishes (1500 pt sort of thing) where you could possess units; ie, drive the tanks, take sergeants as avatars and issue squad commands while chainswording people apart, etc. Psychic powers could be interesting too, from the RTS and the FPS perspective.
Playing a librarian with the Bioshock engine, anybody?
Then it just needs an awesome digital paint set, open source for modding new armies, units and conversions, and it's too damned perfect to behold.
THAT's the game I want to play.
God of War is a poo game.

Every game that has ever tried that sort of thing has been an epic failure. The problem with switching between FPS and RTS at the same time is that RTS games focus an extream ammount on your attention. The best micro manager wins the game in ever RTS ever made. So the flaw here is that you can't micro manage your guys while you're doing anything in FPS mode. So either you have to be able to ignore the RTS element and just FPS it or ignore the FPS aspect. I can't see how things can function in an RTS game without your constant attention.

God of War rules. End of.
Though a 40k based clone would be good for a laugh, I'd imagine.

they are dam awesome...
using enemies as literal meat shields, then pulling pins on theyre grenades and throwing them at theyre friends?
to me, that spells instant classic.
finishing moves all look really sweet from what ive seen, as well...
definitely getting this if its released for ps3...

Uhh, the shift key, the numpad and a minimap? I said nothing about micromanagement. In fact I said skirmishes. Like a slightly paced-down UT04, with tyranids. That's the way Invasion should have been designed. God I love that game.
I guess I'm talking to a bunch of console gamers here. You have five fingers on each hand, people, and there isn't a game out there that uses all of them like it could. I'm also a professional keyboardist (the musical instrument), so I can jerk on this one a bit... but seriously, don't compare an idea to an unrelated failure.
I apologise for the God of War comment. It's a stale game done very well indeed. I still got 2000% more out of one Dynasty Warriors game.

I still say the best I ever saw done was the old Space Hulk game, where you had a main FPS screen for your currently chosen terminator, 4 'mini' FPS screens at the top that you could cycle to the main view or perform basic actions through (such as shooting) and the uber-cool planning feature.
(For those who don't remember, the longer you spent in real time, the more your clock built up. But when you went to the planning screen to give directions to your squad, that clock went down. If it hit zero before you finished planning, tough! You just went straight back into real-time with stealers tearing you to bits)
Man, I miss that game...

I saw the video on youtube, I think it was some kind of promotional tool from the developers. Obviously it was unfinished. There was only a few finishing moves, and the developers were adamant that there will be many more.
God Of War was a great game, but I hope it doesn't turn out to be a total clone. It would be nice to add an RPG element to the action, i.e the option to spend experience points on buffing certain actions (better shooting, etc). With these cutting edge consoles to hand, it shouldn't be difficult. Whist GOW was great, it was definitely a ''play once and you're done'' kind of game, much like Shadow Of The Collossus. The footage is very promising, but I still find it hard to swallow the idea of a single marine nailing an entire chaos horde on his own.
Maybe if he was a Grey Knight...

Anti-mag... Grey Knight. That's a much more promising game title than boring old 'Space Marine'.
Someone ought to write them a letter before ANOTHER game company lets everyone down. It's not too late to put in a _power weapon_ and a _storm-bolter_, standard. Fire Warrior had bolters. We've been there.
If it has to take a name like 'Space Marine,' you should at least be able to lug a plasma cannon around once or twice. Otherwise this game is just going to be 'Assault Marine'.
