Question #1: Move-distance in the Assault Phase

One member of our gaming group interprets the statement on page 34 (5th ed) that says, "All of the models in an assaulting unit make their assault move following the same rules as in the Movement phase, with the exception that they may be moved within 1" of enemy models", to mean that, the distance a model moves in its Movement Phase is the distance that the model moves in the Assault Phase. That interpretation infers that all bikes/jetbikes move 12" in the Assault Phase. Our friend believes this rule is a change from 4th edition to 5th edition.

Other members of our group think that the intent of the statement is to say: those constraints that apply in the Movement Phase (difficult terrain, etc.) also apply in the Assault Phase. The default move distance for bikes/jetbikes is 6" during the Assault Phase, unless a rule explicitly states otherwise.

Can anyone point us to an unambiguous reference to resolve the difference in interpretation?

Question #2: Model edge

Are distances to/from a bike/jetbike measured to/from the base (as a special unit), or are they measured to-the-hull/from-the-weapon (as a vehicle)? Note: Ork bikes don't have bases, and Eldar jetbikes do have bases.

Many thanks.
