Just have to say, bloody brilliant move. *claps*

Of course, I still have a thin spot on my left forefinger from converting with a dull knife, so I'm well in the "takes one to know one" camp.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

well i was putting some striking scorpions together and spilt all the glue out of the bottle. trying to mop it up with that grey thing that comes with blister packs, (y'know which one i mean its all spongey) i felt a hot sensation on my fingers and then it was the most painful thing i remember. my fingers were stuck to it so i dived over a chair and through the back door and escaped to the outside tap where i throughly washed it.

All my skin had got this wierd white colour on my fingers and at the most concentrated point there was no skin at all, nevver seen anything like it. Was just lookin at in bewilderment and then the fiery pain set it, so i ran upstairs logged on dakka and made a thread to take my mind of it. still hurts to type now :þ both of my thumbs are missing skin and a little flesh thus covered up intesivley with plasters. :S

Yeah, don't screw around. It may have stopped, butit might also be a 3rd degree chemical burn. 3rd degree burns don't hurt because there are no nerves left. So, yeah.

See a doctor. Seriously.

You don't wash super glue with water. Water causes the stuff to cure. The burning was either a chemical burn from the glue curing, or just your skin being ripped off AFTER it cured.

Again, GO TO THE DOCTOR.

That's why I personally use water. Cures it, or "dries it out," rather and then you scrape/ wash it off. Better than it taking a long time. Don't be such a wimp! Just keep it away from your eyes.

Not to say you should not go to the hospital if it is getting infected, etc.

Tip #1: Don't use superglue. If you're putting together plastic miniatures, use plastic model cement. If you're putting together metal or resin, use 5Min epoxy. It works better and doesn't bond to skin.
Tip#2: Keep some acetone or nail polish remover around. It dissolves superglue and then evaporates, so no further cleanup is required.
Tip#3: If you glued your fingers together, you used waaay to much superglue and would have had to scrape the excess off your miniatures eventually anyway.
This is why I am such a fan of plastic miniatures. I've left a couple of slivers of fingers behind. Never want to the hospital because of it.
Tip#4: Keep a first aid kit around. Sound's like you're gonna need it in the future...

Careful when you are playing with solvents and chemicals and what not. Super glue is a cyanoacrylic (probably misspelled that but I'll move on). I wouldn't expect it to dissolve skin, but it does bond fast and tighten up when it dries so if you got it over a large area, then yah it might have ripped you up some. As with everyone else here, I recommend that you seek medical attention. Acetone will do wonders for dissolving the glue if you need to (and you can buy it at just about any hardware store). Just keep in mind that when the acetone is done doing what it does, it will evaporate, leaving fumes (that are flammable) around. So you only want to use it someplace that's well ventilated. Or at the worst, if you have to break it out, open a window and/or go outside. Also, acetone is missible (mixes / disolves...except for liquids) in water so once the acetone has done it's job, you can wash it off to keep any residue from hanging around.

If you are dealing with plastic cement, you'll also want to keep in mind that it too is volatile (evaporates quickly) and flammable. And much like acetone, if you breathe the fumes, it will dissolve your brain (I'm not kidding). While the brain dissolving takes a long time and copious amounts of solvent to finish, small parts go every time you get a dose. Keep that in mind.

If I know I'm going to be doing a lot of work with plastic cement, I always bring my respirator home from work and make sure I have some fresh organic vapor cartridges in it.

@Phoenix: Actually, a respirator is going overboard. My modelling table is under a ceiling fan that draws the vapors up and away, and I sit so that the vapors are drawn away from me. And I've watched enough episodes of COPS to know what sniffing glue and spraypaint does to the brain.

Aren't chemical burns from superglue fairly rare? I've had to scrape hardened superglue off of my fingers before when I was being sloppy but I don't remember it burning. Or did you have to get lucky and have to get the superglue into a minor scratch or something?

The curing reaction is exothermic, it cools relatively quickly. Small amounts do not generate enouhg heat to burn you. A large amount will briefly generate enough heat to do some damage.

I would caution against using any solvents if your skin is burnt or broken from the glue. I can't imagine the pain of a strong solvent (such as acetone) on exposed or inflamed nerve tissue. Go to the doctor.

Pic or it didn't happen...

Are you down to mucle or the subcutaneous tissue?

If its mucsle you are in for a long, long and disfiguring healing process.
If its just the subcut tissue it should be healed up in a couple of weeks.
Get it checked by a doctor to be sure.

Reading through your post again it hurts- so you still have nerve endings, consider it a 2nd degree chemical burn and don't do it again.

And see a doctor.

True enough, but I like my brain and I don't have a ceiling fan (or other form of ventelation better than opening a window) so I go a bit overboard. That and I really hate the smell of the stuff and the respirator gets rid of that.

waaagh a pic would just be of two bandaged thumbs...

anyway i swung by the doctors on the way back from school. Mum would be all in a fluster and like 'no painting for you for a month or so' if she new. anyway the result was minor second degree acid burns. some disinfectant was used which stung considerably and now its difficult to hold a pen at college :þ In short they'll heal fine

Thread concluded. So freakin Lock it already!

I once dribbled some SUperglue onto some Toilet Tissue.

The Toilet Tissue started smouldering.

I stick my head in the fumes wondering what is going on.

I Superglue my eye shut on them. Man that was embarassing.
