Just curious has anyone heard anything about what changes they are doing to the guard since the new codex is comming up pretty soon?

3 things "known" is that GW seems to be shifting the Doctrine from army wide options to options on a platoon to platoon basis while reducing the overall number of "Doctrine" like options.

The second thing is that GW is planning on giving the IG alot of new "tanks" in form of different turret weapons for the Russ and Chimera.

The third is the addition of the Valkyrie to the IG, airborne transport.

doctrines as they are now are disappearing. they will be replaced by something in a similar vein to SM combat tactics. the ability to shoot through members of your own platoon without granting your target a cover save has been rumoured as this.

there are rumoured to be 22 vehicles in the new codex. there will be no super heavies. i have trouble thinking of that many from all the FW books so i have no idea what will be in there. its possible that, with the advances that GW has made in plastic casting recently, that we will see a leman russ/chimera kit with a whole variety of options. this is just me musing on the possibilities however.

it has been confirmed that production of the plastic valkerie/vulture is possible, but it is still up in the air whether it will be profitable to make it as a kit, so it could go eitherway. in any case GW have said that they wont be introducing fliers into 40K so it will likely be a skimmer.

its too early of anything concrete to come out yet, given that the codex comes out in march, but things will start filtering through around december i reckon.

Hell.. I've been waiting for a new Dark Eldar book to come out before I started a new army and I've lost count how many years I've played Space Marines while I waited..

Yes personally I think DE should have come out before marines. Then IG then maybe Marines

It's has been more than a decade since my WFB Dogs of War had a proper, printed Army Book. But at least they got models through 6th Edition.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to a new Guard Codex.

Even if it's not until early 2009.
