Ive had this little fantasy for a while to do a yellow Ork army. I've got nothing against green, but I like having a different, not-so-common theme. Fluff-wise I dont see why they wouldnt fit in. Codex: Orks states that Orks get their green color from algae in their blood, and algae come in more colors that just green, therefore there's no reason why there can't be yellow Orks, right?

Well with the release of AoBR is gave me a nice, cheap opportunity to test out my idea. I was pretty excited at first, but after painting one I'm verging on having second thoughts. So I thought I'd post and see what everyone else has to say with my idea and follow through paint job. Obviously the clothing and weapons and face arent finished, but the skin is and that's the important part.

EDIT:

Alright I've added a poll in to get a general consensus on what YOU think sounds like a badass color for their warpaint!!

I think it looks rather cool and if you paint the armor a color that complements the armor like a shade of blue it might do the trick. Paint the armor on this one and maybe a few more and see which one looks the best

I like it

Then again, I've always liked the more muted 'realistic' orc/ork flesh tones as opposed to the bright green 'cartoony' ones.

I am with the others. it looks good but only a finished mini can tell you if your going to like it. I can see this skin tone fitting in with all the different orc clan themes.

Not only do the rules say your wrong but they also say your a DICK!

I like the skin tone. I'd love to see it once the rest of the mini is finished as well.

I like it. A wave of yellow moving across the field of battle instead of green will also be a nice site...

I too am more into the more realistic colours then the bright green. I however kept to the green. It is just my way of saying they are orks I guess. That and for some wierd reason I now have 3 armies with mainly greens in them (guard, tyranids, and now orks). I think I just like the variety the colour offers, as I have the green armies, but they look very different from one another...

I am thinking of doing the basic Ultramarine marines though. I need something not green to break the habit now...

OLD MAN ULTRAMARINES' BASEMENT

What you can do is a bad moon army of orcs. I would go with(that is if you reallly don't like full yellow) knarlac green foundation for the green, and then do each boy like half his face yellow. nobs get a full head of yellow. my warboss is from the death skulls clan and all the visible skin on him is ultramarine blue. just cuz he is the 2nd most badass guy in the army. just some ideas for you, from one orc lover to the next!

I think Orks with yellow skin would be some great fluff. Bad Moons blessed by Mork and Gork with the colors of their tribe matching their skin, running amok choppin' people. Good stuff.

I'm all for breaking the green mould. I wouldn't go overboard with his other colours though; the yellow is going to be enough of a focal point. I'd keep the clothes and weapons dull and earthy, using browns and others rusty colours to compliment the skin.

I really should be spending my time more constructively.

Looks like a liver problem, have him look into some supliments or toning down his diet to more whole foods that are light on toxins or more antioxidants. Otherwise i like it. I actually did that with some of my orks to a lesser degree a few years ago. I would add yellow to lighten the green abd it turned out fine. But yeah, stick with it! And I agree, a darker warpaint would look good on them.

I really like it!

I think if you finish the paint job you will find it looks great. I don't think you should use more color, it would make the to bright and loose the cool effect of the yellow skin. I agree with the poster who suggested browns, blacks, rust, and other earthy colors.

Black kinda tribal tattoo's/warpaint would look excellent.

I totally think it's a great color. I would definitely do that color scheme. I have some orks now thanks to the AOBR set and I might just do that!

I would like to see the teeth and eyes done...but I am not digging it. I think the painting itself looks fine...but I am stuck on Orks being green. Stupid mental roadblocks.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Always a fan of seeing orks as something other than green.

My reven are a ruddy-brown, for example. And Hordes' trollbloods are great proof that you can have monsters of different skin colors and still look uniform and good.

Run with it. Difference is good for you!

As some one who has painted several hundred Orks and Orcs over the years I really like this! The old D&D books would have stuff about different colored orcs and goblins. I like green, I do but god it gets old after a while. I say knock these guys out man. Let us see what you can do, so far its a great start. Care to share what coors/steps you used to do it?

Okay... I saw the thread at work, where your picture didn't come through.
At that time, there was only 1 or 2 comments on it.

I was assuming they were just being nice.

I was picturing a bunch of tusked bananas running across the table and just how stupid that would be.

All I can say is, "Wow." I was SO far off... and glad of it.

I realy like the "yellow," though it looks a little more TAN to me.

Excellent job... and your fluff works, too.

Almost HAVE to be Bad Moon, though. LOL

The ONLY criticism I have is that your steps seem too complicated. I'm wondering if you couldn't consolidate them a little. That's a lot of steps for what is, essentially, only a SMALL postion of each mini (head & arms).

Keep up the good work. I want to see him finished.
