Project I'm working on calls for a SAG spinny bit - the thing with 3 prongs and the orbs at the end. Any chance anyone's got one of these? I'm happy to buy or trade.

While I would prefer the newer ones, I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen, so I'll take whatever I can get.

There's really very little difference between them.

New one is quite a bit chunkier and more heavily cabled.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I have the old one, bought on eBay complete with gun and old ork gunner. he did not cost much.

Ther ting is the spinny bit is actually a very simple piece, well under the threshold of your modelling skills. I might have to buy one if mine was lost, frankly from what I have seen you do I have 0% problems with believing you could knock one together .

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Alright, let's come clean here.

Making the SAG spinny bit is well within my grasp. That said, allow me to explain why I am looking for the existing bits.

I am purchasing a Thunderfire Cannon in early october, following their official release, and turning it into a giant Shokk Attack Gun array for my Big Mek. The back of the Thunderfire cannon will be modified to accept 'cartridges' of snotlings in shell-shaped cages (which I already have made). The front of the gun will have a SAG bit mounted on a motor, so that it actually spins.

The reason I want a metal SAG bit is twofold - I am assuming they are better balanced than something I would make, as any SAG bit I would make would be invariably prone to slight irregularity (one prong longer than the other, etc). The SAG spinny bit on the newer edition model possesses 3 obviously identical bits, and from handling the model I can tell that it's balanced well enough that if I set it spinning at a high speed it would work fine.

The OLDER SAG spinny bits are something I've not been able to get my hands on to evaluate, so I don't know how well they are balanced. I'd assume they're probably identical.

The second reason I want one of the metal SAG bits is because I am concerned that if I get the model spinning at too high an RPM, it might test the bonds of glue that I'd use to make my own SAG bit, and parts may go flying off. A single, one-piece, metal part is immune to such considerations.

Anyway, there you have it. I HAD one of the newer SAG bits I was doing this with, but I moved to a new home and somewhere along the way I seem to have lost it. :(

i thyink I am onto you now, you want a motorised spinny bit that actually spins on a looted thunderfire?

You dont make it easy on yourself dont you.

The old SAG spinny bit is way too small for a Thunderfire. If you want something that spins you will need to scratchbuild and for a variety of reasons primarily because you will need a spinny bit of light plastic. I would look at a propeller first, build up the blades swap wire around them, the actual spokes need not be identicle so long as they are eveny proportioned. Finally put a bead on tne end of each one.
the Thunderfire itself is hollow, I am sure they were planning a plstic kit, I saw theassembly instructions yesterday nd it was all too obvious. In any even it wont takemuch for a particularly deranged mekaniac to put an electric motor inside.

If it turns out the SAG bit is too small for the thunderfire cannon, I will of course create my own, but I don't think it'll be nearly as well balanced as GW's part. We'll see, I guess, as I'm only guessing at the size of the Thunderfire.

They're not. Well, the arms themselves are more or less identical, but the angles in between them are slightly off... which would probably throw the balance a little.
