I'm sick of the PP boards going down like Johnny at the bat mitzvah. The content here is awesome and has become my 'main' Warmachine/hordes board, but are there others out there I don't know about that are as good?

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I wish they would learn to hire enough people. Seems like they are always a 'guy short'. Today they need a web designer, I seem to remember them having issues a year or so ago, too with something else. They don't have enough painters, I don't think.

As for other boards, there are scattered conversations all over the Internet, but this seems to be the ... consistent one, especially for us.

Yeah. Brushthralls have been pretty quiet these days, in part because of the McVey's leaving (I think) and in part because of Youngwolf going through a bunch of illnesses (cancer, mostly).

Hows AWC? I seem to remember them being mostly a 40k board, but do they have any WM action going down?

Well this is pretty much one of the few forums I can get to at work, the PP boards are a no-no apparently.

I guess I should post more to get discussions going, unfortunately I've been so damn busy that I haven't had the time. I can't tell if that's a good or a bad thing.

I'm workin' on it, man! Uhlans are halfway done, then it's KatrinaVlad, my last 4 MOWST, a proxy for the Khador Wardog (probably a Mordheim wardog that I've got lying around) and then...not sure. I've got sam horne and co. but as I've posted before, I'm not excited by them, and I've got some doomreavers...that would get me FULLY PAINTED (well, until I buy more stuff).

I'm sorely tempted to get some more Winterguard and another rocketeer, but I'm silly that way.

I could get this guy, he's kind of cool. The rules for the horse guy looked cool, too.

Are trenchers any good, I don't like the Longgunners. That, and I have the Nyss Mercs, too. So I would want to think in terms of how I could mix Cygnar with merc stuff. There is new Hordes coming out, too. Lots of it. Ooo! And I'm a Trolls army. Only I am using Lizard-men type models for all the stuff that looks stupid. And the trolls kind of help out. . There has to be lizards in the swamp, someplace. And besides I have the minis. So the Bison guys are Lizardman Coldones etc etc. Actually I will probably stick with Lizards. So Skinks may be my what do you call 'em. Kriel Warriors. If I pick up a box of Saurus I can do some double weilding conversions. "Neato".

But yeah I might pick up some Cygnar. What's another couple hundred bucks.

I could use Gun Mages too, if I wanted some shooting. I am really not big on their bulk infantry. I am looking for a glory boys feel here.

I just started painting Pirates. Despite 10 Seadogs (cannon fodder) it's an all solo army with a few Jacks. At 750 I'll be using every solo in the PotBC book. At 1000 the only model from the book I won't use is Fiona. Hellofa lot more fun then painting 90 ork boys, the other army i'm workin on...

Trenchers are like tactical marines, ok in a lot of things not great in any. They shoot ok with CRA and can make a mean impact in melee with bajonet charge, are decently resilent against shooting. And they have UA to add even more powah and then of course their own jack.

Only thing I'm not liking about them is the sculpts as they are from the prime period: single piece with strange poses(look at the sarges hand position) and the detail is a bit unclear.

Trenchers are worth their weight in gold for their most important ability that is the smoke screen they create with smoke bombs. For some other factions/armies they're the most hated of all Cygnar units. I love them

Trenchers are good.

Trenchers with the UA are awesomesauce. If your foes don't fear the Trencher UA, you're not playing them well. Advance, dig-in, shoot on Turn 1. Turn 2, shoot and run away. They are incredibly mobile with the UA, somewhat static without.

I actually have traded away 2 units of LGs and the UA in the last month. I don't care for them, even with the UA (although that makes them interesting at least). LGs are a static unit in a game of maneuver.

I just started playing Cygnar again. Picked them up at 50% off to quiet the nay sayers that Cygnar are too weak. Solos IMO detract from Cygnars strenghts when you take too many of them. LG's when utilized right are straight up butter. I take both the LG's and trenchers but IMO the unit attachment is to much for the trenchers so instead I just take 8 along with Finn. Keep them mobile and with RAT 8 with Finn and a 6 inch snipe make a excellent screening force to harass the enemy. Put them on a flank and LG on the other for crossfire and it's like shooting fish in a barrel. Bring the T-head and other jacks up the middle and then pull back with a sort of refused flank but in the middle and it really breaks down thier advance.

I don't play Cygnar, but if I was going to then I'd be wanting to play with their Jacks and jack casters like Darius, Kraye, and eNemo. Soooo damn cool what they can do with jacks!

As far as Long Gunners, they're sick, especially with snipe, but from what I'm finding it's not too hard to protect your stuff from their shots but that's caster dependent (I come from running pVlad).

Trenchers are annoying as all hell, most of the time forcing me to run guys into the AOE's to engage them but that sets me up for counter charges which is exactly what the Cygnar player was probably trying to do in the first place.

The only bad thing I can think about Cygnar is that their Melee troops aren't that great. IMO after one of the Legends events I played in the big joke was about how the Forge Guard (Rhulic Demo Corps) were Cygnars best melee unit. Between Arcade Shield from Jr. and the Piper to give them speed for when they charge (and tough when they're not), they're pretty damn nasty in a Cygnar list.

Still I've been on the wrong end of Stormguard and they sure pack a punch - their only problem is that I can generally work around them or have ways to kill them before I hit melee.

I used to play trenchers without the UA. Now, I think the UA is almost mandatory. It increases the survivability of the unit immensely. I don't think Finn is that great or helpful with Trenchers, in fact, I generally use him more as a Solo than a Trencher buff.

AD the trenchers, Dug In. Turn 1 (assuming you have a target), use Cautious Advance - move SPD 6, Dig In, Ranged Attack. Dug-in, they're incredibly hard to dislodge. Turn 2, shoot and Run away, falling back 12 inches.

If you're lucky, someone will oblige you and move something into their range on Turn 1, letting you stay dug-in and shooting, and holding onto Cautious Advance.

The only downside is that they're not Fearless. That's it. Yes, it's a pricey unit (120-some for the 6-man unit and UA), but they're incredibly mobile, annoying, and deadly.

Cygnar not have melee units? Stormguard are uber. Can potentially generate 3 melee attacks (either Haley and the Piper), each generating a 1-shot chain lightning. Plus the sgt's nexus shot. And, with Set Defense, they're DEF 15 vs. Charges, which can shut down a lot of charging foes, including impact hits from Cav. And they're Mat 8, iirc, have Reach, and are Fearless. For 10 points each (68 for a base unit of 6 though). Sure, they're only ARM 15 and one wound, but that's what the JWC is for.

Swordknights. With or without the UA (don't have a release date for it). I've had 2 SKs get a charge off on a jack, and with Flank, destroy a heavy warjack in one round. They're brutal, and cheap. They need no support from the caster, just the Piper and a warjack. And the UA makes them Fearless, which was their only weakness.

I think I will definately pick up Stormguard and Trenchers. I might look into Longgunners long term but they are kind of 'meh' to me. I like the sort of thing Voodoo mentioned.

I have Cavalry in Hordes. Bisons and Nyss. I think I will stick with Merc support in Warmachine, just because.

Maybe instead of Gun Mages I will use the JWC for flavour. And/or the Gun Mage solo.

I was going to say, I happen to love my sword knights. I never use the Jack Marshal ability with them, though. Piper for sure, and have a lancer nearby.

It's funny, I tend to run 'jack heavier lists for cygnar than khador. I field long gunners with UA and I've got a pile of solos (stormsmiths, gmca), but I'd rather run Haley with a Defender, Lancer and Hunter, Jr. with a charger, and whatever else I can cram in there for 500 points.

Don't even tempt me.

DO NOT.

I HATE painting Cavalry (I'm working on 4 Uhlans right now and it SUCKS).

I am TWENTY (20) models away from FULLY PAINTED.

(And that assumes I bother to deal with Sam Horne and the Devil Dogs, and not just dump them on ebay or the like.)

And I already have a PILE on my wish/want/covet list, including the Squire, War Dog, Koldun Lord, Thorn, and the Black 13th.

NO no no no no no no no no no no no!

That happens to me each time they release a new book - I always find myself tempted to start up another faction.
Superiority lured me into starting up Protectorate of Menoth. Legends is getting me excited to start up a Cygnar force.
When Primal was released, I started Skorne. When Evolution was released, I dove into building Circle & Trollblood armies.
The way things are going, it appears I may just have to start a Legion army when Metamorphosis comes out. Fortunately, I don't think I'll ever get into Cryx, or get further into Cygnar than Kraye & Siege. I hope anyhow...
