Help a Rogue Inquisitor and his building gang of mutants out!

What's the deal with LATD in 5th?

Any and all help appreciated.

Eye of Terror (the source for the most recent LatD army list) is no longer recognized as an official codex in most GW sanctioned events (GT's for example).

Check with the friends you play with, to see if they'll allow it. If you plan on playing in local tournies, check with the tourney organizer.

The LatD list was balanced (actually a little underpowered) so your friends might still allow them in friendly games. For something more official try using the rules for guard with allied daemonhunters or witchhunters with chaos models subbed in place.

My friends allow anything and everything, as we are a hugely model driven group who plays for fun. We do go to tournies though and play with competitive lists.

If I were to use the LATD list, I suppose it would be best to use the current CSM dex, despite some compatibility issues?

Given the number of complaining/attention seeking CSM players, someone might as well be using their codex for "counts as".

Most discussions that I've seen on the matter seem to favor using the old codex.

LatD is generally not recognized as a legal tournament force because its rules are pretty out of date now and reference things in the Chaos codex that are no longer accurate.

There have been many fan-made conversions of the army list, including one here on dakka in the form of an article.

What is really a shame is that you can't use the Adversaries rules in the back of the DH and WH codexes to make an army ahead of time. Those were pretty much LatD, but are predicated on your opponant taking WH/DH, which is slowed.

Might I suggest taking a look at the various Renegade lists in IA5 and 6?

This is the route I took with my LatD. I took the guard portions for the... guard portions of the Renegades list and use my mutants as worker rabble.

I'm going to leave it at that considering I don't need my blood pressure going up. I no longer wonder how Stockholm Syndrome or Quislings happen.

Don't know if this is a useful suggest, but you could use a Chaos Space Marines list. Lesser Daemons are totally generic now, so they can be anything - packs of small mutants, renegade militia. The bigger mutants could be Chaos Spawn. Lots of HQ to choose from - big and small. Defilers, tanks that are similar.

Tournament wise I doubt you'll find many still supporting LatD, but friendly play I still think they can be fun. It's unfortunate that GW decided to Squat them for the time being, here's hoping they get a WD article or something when they redo loyalist guard.
