I plan on using 30 Commander kits to get the proper weapons on my Sternguard. Pricey? Sure, but better than trying to kit the correct metal figs.

Obviously, I have a deal in place to get t reduced price. I will also be trading extra bits or ebaying them.

Combi meltas, capes for some, double eagle packpacks, amongst other gems.

I dislike metal models. Will use plastic if possible.

Well, it wounds like an awesome idea. If you get a couple kits in before the others please mash one up and put it on here - really excited to see how this looks.

Check out the bits resellers. You might save yourself a ton of money.

Depends how much time you have - buy the commanders, rape the combi meltas (and other stern bits) and sell on the remaining bits (or build, paint and sell on what's left).

If you're after meltas, there must be lots of guys after extra capes etc.

I have a spare melta from that sprue.

Mastercrafted Bolter from command squad
scope
ammo drum from SM Vehicle sprue Stormbolter (1 SB provides 2 ammo drums)
smattering of chaos SM armsets for variety
fair amount of scrolls and purity seals
BT heads for that "old armor" look..

Have you thought of magnetizing the commander guns so you can swap the melta for plasma and bolter if needed?
