Ok Dakka surfers here is my first post of some of my paint work. I know its not all that great but it is my first model that is near completion. All comments and suggestions are welcome, please help me improve my skills. The base has had nothing done to it and I also would welcome suggestions for what to do with it.

Looking good, except for one minor gripe: you gave him green armor despite Dark Angel pre-heresy armor being black.

all i can say is scrape the paint off when your putting the arms on. sometimes the paint will mess up the glue and youll have some fun bonding issues lol.
as for the mini nice work. thats your first near complete? man my first ever complete was... well it looked terrible to say the least lol. ill say it first i guess... get your self some wash for the skin. good luck

I know that the DA Pre-Heresy armor was black, but I really like the look of the DA green. Also, the DA green is showing up in the pics alot, but IRL its really dark. I am gonna wash the armor black after adding some highlights.

KingCracker, what would you suggest using to wash the skin with? I have already put a coat of elf flesh over tanned flesh....

I thought Cypher was presented with green armor in his back story?

Not bad at all. You may want to wash the coat along with the skin though.

Highlight the armour.
Add in a lighter shade of green with the dark angels green you used for the armour and run it thinly over the raised surfaces/ edges. Don't do a thick line.
As your beginning you can quicly improve with the simple addition of a highlight and will get the technique down pat very fast once using it.

Maybe lightly highlight the metal with some chainmail paint to make it 'pop' more.

The cloth is very monotone. Even a start at bleached bone, 1:1 bleached bone: skull white highlight then a white highlight would add a heap of depth.

I have this model sitting around somewhere at home, I'll have to find him and paint him up.

you should put a hint of dirt on the bottom of his cloak.......where are his arms?

The silver highlight on the holsters looks odd to me, I think a lighter brown would have been better??

As for the arms, they are still being painted and I find it easier to paint them off of the main model. The silver isn't suppose to be a highlight, its suppose to be trim. Hopefully the cloak will get some more highlights in the next few days and I will try to finish the arms and post some more pics.

Don't paint on the green, drybrush it on. Looks way better.

Here's a little update on Cypher.

The only thing I might do some more work on is his armor. I'm not sure I like the way it looks but I alsoi am not sure what else I would do to it...
