As we all venture boldly into the Post Las/Plas Era, I know we're all looking for the new Las/Plas.
It's been mentioned before in different ways, but here's my question, phrased in the form of a statement.
I really like the idea of 10 Marines, Lascannon, any special weapon, Power Fist and a Razorback (Combat Squads deployment) as the core of the army.
The ballpark cost on this is 250 points, so you are looking at 3-4 as a good core to any list.
Razorbacks are cheap, and HBolters are the new black in a world of cover and invulnerable saves. That said, a good Lascannon is never oot of fashion, so 5 T4 wounds around one is a nice squad. Power Fists may have been nerfed and upcosted, but they're still the hammer for so many nails, you want to run some. Lots of scoring units.
Is this where it's at? What would one put around it in support?

I'm still running Las/ Plas, Blood Angels have required 10 marines for it for a while now so nothing changed for me.

I'd be inclined to run a Las/Plas Razorback in support of my Las/Plas Tacticals, now that they've brought back my favorite (and the original) configuration.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

If you stop taking Lascannons, you will find yourself in a world of hurt. Melta guns can hurt things, but not at range. There still is something to be said about cross table shots.

Support? A 10 men Assault Termie squad with 7 thunder hammers. That's a nasty shock and awe unit.

I concur with this.
Optimal tactical squad consists of:
1. fist sergeant combat squad
2. lascannon combat squad
3. heavy bolter razorback
You then get your main point of diversity:
A. plasmagun with the lascannon
B. melta gun with the sergeant
Las/plas not dead, it just covers potentially half your troops squads with the rest consisting of running fists.
I am happy to step down a little and run power sword and flamer for half of my tactical squads. It is good to diversify.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. |

I agree that the odd power sword and flamer would be good to shave off some points and give you decent antihorde.
